Happy Valentine’s Day weekend or is it President’s Day weekend?
How many times have we intentionally been deceived? The times are too many for me to recall, when it happened to me. Now with that said, are we intentionally deceiving ourselves too?
As Realtors we are always “busy”, but are we “productive” or are we deceiving ourselves by being “busy”? These questions are always high on my priority lists. I constantly review, question and modify my activities. I do not want to deceive myself that I am busy. Do you check what you do daily, weekly? Or you are just too busy to do that?
Now with that said, what is Valentine’s Day about? Is it about the more than 50 million pounds of chocolate that is sold leading up to the big day? Or is it about the expressing our devotion to our loved ones? Is this the way of showing them, that we care and want to let them know? Is it the way to show it by giving them chocolate? Or is it about doing something, because it is expected and if we do it and if we do not then we are not hip, nor cool or trendy?
Well let me be clear, I am a heavy contributor to the purchasing of the many millions of pounds of chocolate. Why do I do it? First, I love dark chocolate, second, I love to celebrate Valentine’s Day with food, wine and dark chocolate. Do I do it because it is expected, maybe somewhat, but in all fairness you can come to our home unannounced, and if we let you in, you will find dark chocolate everywhere, not just on Valentine’s Day. The same applies with wine and food.
This Valentine’s Day weekend has been a bit quiet, since Diane has been under the weather, so no fancy meals were prepared. Instead we had various soups of whatever she desired or was in the mood for. Chicken Soup, Vegetable Soup and the list goes on and on. We had fresh squeezed orange juice every day, thanks to the overabundance of citrus from our backyard, but I am digressing. We will make up for it, when she is back one hundred per cent, so to speak.
You might ask, when did this become President’s Day weekend? The beauty of being old is, that I do not have to memorize historical dates and events, because I remember them growing up. I remember when it was Washington’s Birthday and it was Lincoln’s Birthday. Then a Senator decided to introduce a legislation to make the Federal Holidays “Uniform Monday Holiday Act” celebrate Federal Holidays on Mondays. What a great idea any excuse to get a “long weekend”.
The question is, are you being deceived? The two Presidents were pretty much combined to President’s Day was it 1968, was it 1971? Does it really matter?
I remember when the two President’s Washington and Lincoln each had their own Days that we celebrated. I always felt that Car Dealerships have created these Holidays. These were the weekends when you could get supper savings on New and Used Cars. So, I always thought, that it was the Holiday of Car Dealerships, because such deals you could only get on Washington’s Birthday and on Lincoln’s Birthday weekends.
Getting back to my point about Real Estate, what have you done this weekend? Were you busy or were you productive? I am negotiating two potential sales and trying to keep a challenging deal together. I am also meeting a client for lunch who might ultimately become a purchaser. Time will tell, but when it is a referral how can you say no, right? Worse comes to worse we will enjoy a nice lunch😊.
Wishing you all a Happy Valentine’s Day & President’s Day weekend.
