You’ve no doubt been reminded now and then about the power of sending hand-written thank you notes.
Hardly anyone sends hand-written notes of any kind, so your thank you notes stand out in
the postal mail. They’re so rare that back when I had a real estate agency, I even got thank you notes for my thank you notes!
Tom Hopkins recommended sending 5 each day, even if you have to stop and think about who to thank.
I once wrote our local grocery store owner and thanked him for hiring such pleasant checkers and box boys. Those people make shopping a pleasure.
Tom Hopkins said to thank people for listing appointments, showing appointments, etc. With that in mind, I wrote a set of a dozen Thank You notes that you can either use as-is or as inspiration for personalized notes.
It's good marketing.
Sending thank you notes, whether to prospects, clients, closers, inspectors, or people you do business with outside of real estate, is a good marketing practice. It creates good will and makes you memorable.
Because receiving genuine thank you notes is so unusual, people tell other people. Note that I said “genuine.” A pre-printed note with a pre-printed signature is just advertising. I don’t know about you, but when I receive one of those it goes directly to the round file.
Just as an aside…
You don’t have to worry about this in real estate, but if you sell anything else as a side business, do be careful. I once purchased a recliner for my husband for Christmas. The store owner, who was known for both his thank you notes and his horrible handwriting, sent the thank you note BEFORE Christmas. And, being a somewhat unenlightened male, he sent the note to my husband instead of me. There went that surprise!
But back to the power of gratitude… it’s not ONLY a marketing tool.
It’s also a Law of Attraction tool. If you only give it lip (or pen) service, you won’t get the full benefit.
As you think about the people who will receive your notes, really think about them, and feel thankful for their business, their friendship, their service, and whatever they’ve contributed to your day.
It’s that feeling of gratitude that will lift your spirits and brighten your day. And, due to the Law of Attraction, it’s that feeling that will bring you even more people and reasons to be thankful.
