Much of life is about our expectations, our beliefs. This is a favorite short story of mine and totally relates to real estate.
A young man was walking into a town. On the outskirts sat a home with an old man in his rocking chair. The young man walked up to the old man and politely asked “What kind of folks live in this town?”
The old man replied with a question “What kind of folks lived in the town that you came from?”
The young man replied “Those folks were mean, cheap, disrespectful, not friendly, not really nice.”
The old man said, “Then you will find those same folks here.” The young man said, “Thank you and walked away from the town.”
Later that day, another young man walked into the same town and stopped by the same old man. He too asked the same question of “What kind of folks live in this town?” Again, the old man replied with a question “What kind of folks lived in the town that you came from?”
This second young man answered, “The folks were kind, generous, respectful, friendly and really very nice.” The old man said, “Then you will find those same folks here.” The second young man said, “Thank you for your time and walked into town.”
This story is about expectations along with mindfulness. So often we do receive what we believe.
