One of the things I love to see from builders I work with is how they give back to the community they work in. Like any local business, home builders survive and thrive when people see them as a part of their community.
I wanted to share Tim O’Brien Homes with you because I think it’s a particularly inspired example. Tim O’Brien Homes is a home builder in Wisconsin that operates in the Madison and Milwaukee areas.
Tim O’Brien Homes does several outreach and charity programs many of you would recognize. Habitat for Humanity does great work building homes for those in need, and Operation Finally Home builds homes for families of fallen veterans. What makes Tim O’Brien Homes stand out to me though, is its partnership with a local high school where every year high school students help build a house as part of their Buildings Trades 3 course.
With this program the company is investing in the future of its community. I think it’s great to see an emphasis on the trades during a time in America where more and more kids feel pressured to go to college and accumulate debt, only to struggle to find a job. In fact, many trades are even experiencing a shortage of skilled workers. It’s hard to calculate just how great of an investment Tim O’Brien Homes is making with this program, but the company is supporting the future of these kids, their community, and our industry. To me that seems even more important than simply cutting a check.
What are some of your favorite community outreach programs you’ve seen in the real estate industry or elsewhere?
