Unusual places to receive leads from: Walmart

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with RealBird Inc.

For the last two weeks, I have been seeing steady traffic to the RealBird single property websites coming from two new, surprising sources .

Walmart is using Oodle's search engine to power its new, quitely released classified site (among the over 200 other sites, like Lycos, local newspaper and TV channel websites). Since we are syndicating to Oodle, the listings started to show on Walmart's classifed site automatically. Joel Burslem at FOREM had more about this on his blog earlier last week.

Overstock.com - a large e-commerce site - is even more surprising. Not that they introduced a classified ads section (powered by Vast.com - our other long time syndication destination) but because of the steady traffic they bring to the RealBird Listings sites. I saw OverStock's real estate search being covered first on Mark Galloway's blog last Friday

While I do not yet have comprehensive statistics to compare the RealBird incoming traffic from Walmart.com and Overstock.com, but it "feels" that Overstock.com delivers more. It might be due to the prominent positioning of their Real Estate section on the top of their website, while Walmart's classifieds are kind of hidden on the left side menu.

The chart below shows how the two sites (overall, not just the classified sections) ranks in terms of monthly visitors. 5 million and 25 million visitors a month. That is a lot of exposure possibility for your RealBird single property sites.

Hi Zoltan- Thank you for this, it is interesting. I am going to checkout the sites. I did not know Walmart had classifieds- I heard they are going into commercial real estate.

Gita, Barbara, Charles, IMNJ, Bill - Thanks for commenting. These are indeed great sources of visitors and for me it makes complete sense that they monetize their large userbase while delivering additional traffic to advertisers like you. More exposure to your listings, the better. The best thing though is that you get more exposure without spending more time and $. Beauty of syndication. We syndicate to Oodle, they syndicate to Walmart, but the same little time investment on your part.
