Reynaldo Guerra Garza

Managing Real Estate Broker with Fathom Realty PB00068179

Reynaldo Guerra Garza was born in Brownsville, Texas back in 1915. He received his Associate of Arts degree from Brownsville Junior College in 1935 and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas, Austin in 1937. He continued his education earning a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Texas School of Law in 1939.

After graduation, he was in private practice from 1939-42. He served in the United States Army Air Force from 1942-45. After being discharged he returned to his private practice until 1961. He died at his hometown of Brownsville in 2004, he was 89.

What you may not know about Reynaldo is that he was a United States Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. That made him the first Mexican-American and the first Latin American appointed to any circuit of the United States Court of Appeals.

Good morning, James... Reynaldo may have been the first, but hopefully he paved the way for other Mexican and Latin Americans so he wasn't the last.

Hi James Dray - There is always that first person to break through and it does not stop there. There is the added pressure of being in that glass bowl and scrutiny. Hats off to Reynaldo.

How wonderful to hear of a man who studies, goes off to war, and comes back and succeeds in living out an outstanding life in service as a 'first' Mexican-American/Latino-American appointed to the US Court of Appeals.  Wonderful!!
Hope you are having a great day, James Dray

Very interesting, James Dray

I wonder if a similarly qualified Mexican American would be appointed to the same position today?
