Ask An Ambassador: What Story Do You Want To Tell?

Blogging provides immense freedom.

While it's true that there are some topics we feel prudent to avoid, that slice of the blogging pie is VERY small.

Now when you hear "storytelling" you might think "once upon a time".  Fiction and fairy tales and fables. But we don't need to limit storytelling to just the wild imagination, but can apply just as well to the factual parts of our lives.

Tell the right story in your marketing remarks for your latest listing and you just might attract more buyers than you ever expected.  The right combination of great photos and great words create that positive vibe you want.

Now you might think market reports are inherently dry, but even there you can find some room for storytelling.  You can tell the story of why a particular community is an attractive place to live.

The data that is the core of your report provides the basis to tell a story:  is the market up, down, flat?  How you present the information can spin a picture of a real estate horror story or unicorns and rainbows.  It's all in the story you want to tell and where you want to put emphasis.

Is the market down 50% month to month, or UP year to year for the same month?

There are an endless supply of object lesson stories available to us from our day to day real estate lives.  You can point out the good and the bad to tell a tale that can resonate with a potential home buyer or seller.  Do it well and they'll reach out to you.

Once upon a time there was a blogger...

Excellent point that in the end, no matter how great your data or story is, you have to keep their attention. .That is of course after you gain it. Adding a story can liven any blog and that is what i love doing Liz and Bill Spear

Hello Bill(and Liz too) - excellence in storytelling is evidence of good marketing in my opinion.  Combined with exceptional results, that is a powerful statement.

Hi Bill:

Telling a good story - but not a fabrication - is part of marketing a home effectively, as well as about ourselves. It creates interest and enables readers to better identify with what's being told, versus something that is just cold, hard, stated statistics. Make it human and people will more likely respond!

Telling a good story is a gift!  And if one doesn't have that gift up front when they begin blogging they CAN learn it along the way from other bloggers and a lot of inspiration.

Telling a story within a market report is a genius idea. I know people like you (engineers and such) that appreciate market reports for what they are. But others might need some help along the way to get through them.

See It. Experience It. Live It.

Once upon a time, like this morning, I started trying to figure out how to make market reports more interesting.

Thanks for the idea of figuring out some way to incorporate a story into them.
