We all have them; those days where you want to pull your hair out and scream. Fortunately we also have days where it seems the world is our oyster. Today was one such day here in Fairbanks.

The sun was beaming down through the office window enticing me with warm rays to abandon the dull 'ol paperwork I was diligently working on for a little play time. Who doesn't like recess? So, I gave in, grabbed my camera and headed out to see what I could get into.

It wasn't until later this evening that we took a walk around the lake that I found what I had been looking for... I snapped these while out walking with my lovely wife. Enjoy!

Seems as though there's something to the old 'stop and smell the roses' adage. Take a moment to enjoy the beauty God has made for us. Make it a great day!

Jesse,

When my oldest daughter was in High School, we did a 'wild flowers' project together...what a great Father/Daughter bonding experience it was!!! Your pix bring back memories! Thanks,   Fran

Jesse- awesome, awesome photos. The flowers look like they are enjoying the sunlight until 1:00 am. We have finally been getting our fair share of nice weather also and I plan on taking full advantage of it this weekend.

Jesse ~ You took some beautiful pictures!  The past couple of weeks, I have been stopping to smell the roses - literally; the rose bushes in my yard, and one of them just has a scent that brings me back to my childhood.

Those are remarkably sharp and crisp photos, Jesse. What kind of camera do you use? It is it digital? Or are you one of those guys like my husband who understands f stops and all that complicated stuff? Reason I ask whether it's digital is I'm thinking about buying the Canon Rebel to replace my Kodak Easy Share. Which I just updated a year ago. Hey, it's a business expense!

Great photos by a great photographer.  Wonderful way to share the beauty of Fairbanks in the summer.

By the way, my Mt. McKinley climber had to turn back when the team's guides got pneumonia.  Real bummer after so many months of training and anticipation.

Adam - Thanks bud... There are a quite a few good photographers... and at least one lucky one in Alaska.

Leesa - All work and no play... never a good thing is it?

Don - There's nothing like taking a few minutes to enjoy Mother Nature... or an ice cold Dr. Pepper with a friend.  Those are good too.

Laura - It certainly can.  I usually grab my camera and go for a walk when I start to feel like I need to choke someone. haha

Audrey - Grow up?  Who the heck wants to do that?  Come see us anytime.

Paddy - Thanks!  I remember upstate NY as being incredibly beautiful.  We'll be back that way before too long.

Mel - I'm always up for recess... or a stapler. :)

Juniana - Never forget the camera... there's no telling what you'll come across.

Jer - Thanks... Glad you liked them buddy.

Colleen aka Brilliant Broker - :)  I like what the rain does to Mother Nature but I think I would miss big blue skies if I lived in the PNW.

Monika - We had a great time... as always.  Speaking of beautiful you guys should check out some of the photo's from Monika and Jay's camping trip.  Gorgeous!

Fran - Well, if I get to be responsible for bringing back memories, that one sounds like a good one!

Lori - It was sunny up until about 11:45 or so.  The last photo was taken right before we headed back to the house.

Debbie - haha... yes, you do.  Thanks for stopping by!

Kathy - I love roses but can't grow them to save my soul. There are a few smells that take me back to my childhood as well... it's a great trip isn't it?

Elizabeth - I have a Canon SLR that I take most of my pictures with and a Canon PowerShot (point & shoot) for real estate. The PowerShot is actually a good little camera.  I can control the aperture as well as almost as many settings as I can my SLR.  I did, however, just order a new Canon EOS 40D (digital) and a 17-40mm wide angle lens that I'm looking forward to playing with.  I love my film camera but digital is hard to beat.

Gary - Thanks my friend.  I just like to tinker with photography.  Every now and then I get lucky and get a good shot or two.

Margaret - Thanks!  I noticed on your Focus on Crofton blog that they had turned back.  The trip up the mountain is grueling but the folks we know who have made it say it's worth every step.

Jesse, those are absolutely incredible! Wow. Everything here has burned up already and it looks so springy and fresh and bright and crisp and beautiful there.

What kind of digital did you use for those shots? They are professional looking for a guy at recess!

Keep those photos coming! Now, in a TLW fashion...

wonderful post.

beautiful post.

fantabulous post darling.      Later in the rain~Deb

Jesse, Darlin... is my room ready?  Don't forget you promised me an Alaska vacation.   I'll make sauce, or as us "I"talians say, gravy!  I hope you know that I think of you every time I .... type the dot, dot, dot as I know it drives you crazy... a short trip, my friend.   Beautiful pictures.  Thanks for sharing.

JESSE, those are great.  I guess your spring flowers bloom quite late; don't they.  My neighbor is in Anchorage right now visiting her son and new daughter-in-law who are stationed there.  Well her son is stationed there.  He came back over Christmas from his tour in Iraq and married his high school sweetheart. They are there until September and then he will have finished his time with the Army.

Jesse, these are BEAUTIFUL flowers and photographs. Sometimes we ALL need recess! Good for you. So is it summer/spring/fall there, or what? It appears you have daylight, but not sure of how long that lasts and when. ;-)

My husband and I - one day - plan to take an Alaskan cruise. Can't wait!

I'm glad to see I am on the right path in considering a Canon. So what do you think of the Rebel? (Apart from its cute name.)

Elizabeth - I like the Rebel series... I almost bought the Xsi but noticed the 40D was on sale on Amazon for $939, which is a good deal, at least by local prices.   Nikon makes  a good camera but I've always used Canon - and I have lots of Canon L series glass.  I don't think you could go wrong with it.

Earleene - Thank you!

Debbie - We're finally getting into the heart of summer here... and it's been beautiful!

Teri - We're smack dab in the middle of summer right now... the temps have been in the low to mid 70's and sunny lately.  Perfect weather if you ask me!  Daylight is running at about 19 hours a day but we'll start to lose 4 minutes a day in on the 21st.

Susan - Darlin' your room is always ready... the spa is fired up and ready to go... just let us know when you're ready to come up.  I have a feeling we could tear a kitchen up.  :)  I'm the king of ... btw, and yes, it's a damn short trip to crazy some days.

Michael - It's good to get out and forget the stress of the day isn't it?  Have a great weekend buddy!

Deb - Thanks!  These were taken with my old Canon SLR. I have a new digital on the way and I can't wait to see how well it works.

Kristal - Thank you so much!  They're growing everywhere up here.

Thanks, Jesse. I will check out the 40D. Appreciate the tip!!! With any luck, my husband might buy it for me for my birthday -- which is in a couple weeks. Just need to drop the right hints such as "oh, but it's too expensive and you shouldn't spend so much money for a present." Ah, but you're married, so I don't have to explain.
