City of Gaithersburg Public Hearings on Monday, March 2. 2020

 

On Monday, March 2, the Mayor & City Council will hold a Public Hearing on proposed ordinance changes to Chapter 19 of the City Code that would update definitions and accommodations for e-bikes and e-scooters on City roadways and sidewalks. Also on the March 2 agenda is a Joint Public Hearing with the Planning Commission for the Schematic Development Plan for a 9.5-acre park located at 10901 Darnestown Road, the site of the former Consumer Product Safety Commission. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall. Testimony for both hearings can be made at the meeting or via e-mail to planning@gaithersburgmd.gov. Agenda will be available here.

Hello Roy - I imagine that the reality of "e"transportation wasn't even a far-off fantasy when most communities formed their original codes.  It makes you wonder about common sense but as we know, things continue to change and evolve.  Even common sense.

They have a problem with this in Portland which is bike and sedgeway friendly. Trying to keep pedestrians safe is always an issue. People can rent sedgeways now and apparently are sharing the sidewalks.

Great information, and great discussion will come of this.  I am in the camp of those who don't want to have to worry about scooters on the sidewalk, especially when walking. Some folks here use the bike lanes, but I have a feeling it is going to annoy the bike set.  A

E-Bikes and Scooters are becoming quite popular here in Sacramento too.  And, roads are being re-designed to better accomodate them.
