YouTube Thursdays - Droning On

By
Industry Observer with Nature As Neighbors

Welcome to this week's YouTube Thursdays - Drones for Real Estate

Aerial videos can be great tool for real estate marketing. They can show us a unique perspective and the overall visual appeal of a listing. Especially prime for a bird's eye view, are properties with stunning views, or acreage.

This week, Georgie Hunter R(S) 58089 is featured again, with this recent listing of a oceanfront 2.3 acre parcel for sale in Haiku, Hawaii.   Likely, we all agree, this property would be difficult to show without drone or aerial photography.

Please leave a like and comment at Georgie's YouTube Channel, please.

This next video is courtesy of Sheri Sperry - MCNE®, and her husband Rick. Rick actually shoots the footage with his drone. This is an aireal tour of a .25 acre listing in Sedona.  Once again, it gives us a great perspective of the lot's location, and the surrounding Red Rock Views.

Finally, this is an aerial video of a $1.1 million house we sold in June of 2018. The house, completely renovated after the sale, was an entry in the 2019 Parade of Homes. The location of the home in Camas is quite unique and has amazing views. It would have been difficult to show how dramatic without the aerial perspective.

Debb/Bernie, Larry and I have recently included Drone photography for some of our listings. It's too early to tell if it has an impact yet. I would imagine it's going to be a great tool!

This is all about aerial photography.  Drones are capable of more flexibility than a helicopter and are more economical.  Moreover you can actually fly very close to details and even through the house if careful.  Thanks for showcasing these three videos.  I think people are fascinated by the aerial aspect beyond just illustrating the extent of the property, etc.

Tre story, John Henry, Florida Architect - and some properties are screaming for aerials. Others, not so much.

Thank you very much for sharing your experience and your advice. Drones are restricted in the DC area.

The airspace around Washington, D.C. is more restricted than in any other part of the country. Violators face stiff fines and criminal penalties. DC is governed by a Special Flight Rules Area (SFRA) within a 30-mile radius of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), which restricts all flights in the greater D.C. area.

The SFRA is divided into a 15-mile radius "inner ring" and a 30-mile radius "outer ring."

  • It is prohibited to fly a drone within the 15-mile radius inner ring without specific FAA authorization.
  • Flying a drone for recreational or non-recreational use between 15 and 30 miles from Washington, D.C. is allowed under these operating conditions:
    • Aircraft must weigh less than 55 lbs. (including any attachments such as a camera).
    • Aircraft must be registered and marked (if it is not operated exclusively under the Special Rule for Model Aircraft, pending NOTAM change).
    • Fly below 400 ft.
    • Fly within visual line-of-sight.
    • Fly in clear weather conditions.
    • Never fly near other aircraft.

Roy Kelley I can well understand why it so restrictive in the DC area. Makes sense.

Hi Debb and Bernie:

There is some great education here, and 3 wonderful examples of the power of drone photography and video to enhance listings. I always enjoy seeing what others are doing with their marketing - thanks for opening those doors!

Drones definitely have changed the business. Back in the mid 90's, I was working on a land project on Florida and I recall working with the folks who flew actual panes to do aerial photography. Drones are much cheaper. :-)

Debb, drone photography can be very useful when there are views, backing to open, or spacious acreage.   I don't do them in neighborhoods.   I have had homes back to golf courses, expansive views or acreage, and this type of photography is critical.  Great post.

You agents get all the fun toys, Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD ... drones are a prime example of that.  Not sure a drone shot of a mortgage lender doing his job would hold quite the same allure!

Good morning, Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD we often use drone photography ..... any luxury home deserves it.... the roofline alone is a feature that clearly shows the magnitude of the home.... and we all know "the eye buys".... drone photography and video are the one only options with listing land.....  and, as far as Maui is concerned, the name alone is eye-opening!!! but to see a video from an overhead view, it's magnificent!
