Are You Ready To Leap Into Home Ownership This Leap Year?

Wondering if you should take the leap on Leap Day/Leap Year and buy a Charlotte area home in 2020? The answer would appear to be a resounding YES! Here are a few excellent reasons to take that leap into home ownership in 2020.

  • Interest rates remain at historically low levels making home ownership much more affordable.
  • Home values are expected to continue to increase in the next several years... you can start building wealth and equity.
  • It's a great time to lock in your housing costs for the long term... much harder to do if you're renting.
  • Owning a home can make you happier.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel thanks, Alexandra. Catching up on a lot of paperwork today... two listings to get organized next week before my second eye surgery on Wednesday. Meantime, waiting for our oldest grandson, Keegan, to arrive for a visit. We haven't seen him since his wedding in Colorado two and a half years ago so are looking forward to catching up with him. He's just accepted a great job with a major architecture firm in Portland and will be moving there from Houston in mid-March.

Nina,

We have a big project to refine today, and we need to write two proposals for two firms that have contacted us.  I am happy you have two listings coming up, bravo!  And Portland, Oregon or Portland, Maine?  Both are quite different than Houston...Oregon has better weather....LOL A

Ron and Alexandra Seigel hi Alexandra... it's Portland, Oregon. I think Keegan and Kendall are in for a bit of a shock as to what their cost of living will be compared with Houston!

Nina,

I have no doubt that it will also be a culture shock, but not as bad as if they were moving to the main cities of California.  We have friends here in Santa Barbara who were thinking of moving to Portland, and I asked Debb and Bernie about it, and they decided against it...I find Portland interesting and borderline weird from my perspective...A

Ron and Alexandra Seigel hi Alexandra... I think "borderline weird" is an apt description for Portland. I used to travel there monthly when I worked at the Bank of California... in two years I never once saw the sun shine in Portland. All the rain in the Northwest cities like Portland, Seattle, Vancouver would drive me nuts.

Leaping Lizards, it's time to buy a home. Hope your words prompt some action Nina Hollander

Hahaha, I'm loving the conversations about weird Portland. It certainly can be a weird little city...we like it much better on this side of the Columbia River. Although, when I worked downtown years ago, I loved it. It's weirded up a lot in the last 10-15 years.  And I promise, we actually do get quite a bit of sunshine here - :)  Although, the winter months can feel a bit too long, especially by about NOW.

Morning Nina.

Happy March, 1st to you.  So, did you get to show any homes yesterday, or better write a contract?

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD hi Debb.. Keegan and Kendall will be living I think in East? Portland in a turn of the century building where they've rented an apartment... and Keegan will be able to walk about 10 blocks to work. I understand that the homeless issue in downtown Portland is a big issue these days.

James Dray good morning, James... no, I did not show homes or write a contract yesterday... spent the day getting organized to get two listings on the market in the next couple of weeks while squeezing in a second cataract operation on Wednesday. Day was topped off with the arrival of our oldest grandson from Houston whom we haven't seen since his wedding two and half years ago.

Grant Schneider good morning, Grant. I think your experience is pretty much universal... the only regrets I see among home owners are those who purchased without really good advice on what and where to buy... be it with an inexperienced agent or on their own.
