Happy Leap Day
For those born on February 29 it might seem that only having a birthday every one in four might not be a bad thing, especially as we get older!! However, as a child it could make you the butt of many jokes as children can be very cruel.
According to old Irish legend St Brigit struck a deal with St Patrick to allow women to propose to men only once ever four years on Leap Day. I thought about this, thinking how romantic but decided against it, I don't like gloves that much!!
In some cultures Leap Day is also known as Bachelor's Day, where if the man rejects the woman's proposal of marriage he must buy her 12 pairs of gloves, supposedly to cover up the fact that she does not have an engagement ring.
And, in Greek culture it is considered to be unlucky to marry in a leap year and even more unlucky to marry on Leap Day!!
All that aside Leap Day is big business and many companies are offering great savings today.
Miller Lite cancelled their Leap Day special in light of the fatal shooting at their factory in Milwaukee. They had been offering a free case of 24 for the day.
Olive Garden is offering 4 desserts for anyone born on Leap Day celebrating and many other restaurants and businesses are offering specialst too, so before you head out today you might want to check online to see what specials are available in your area.
