The 2020 Carlsbad 5000
March 21 and 22 in Carlsbad CA
Carlsbad hosts multiple premier athletic events, including the Carlsbad 5000 which is reported to be the world’s fastest 5K run, with a number of world and US records set, and broken, over the years.
Ownership and management of this event changed hands back in 2019. Ashley Gibson and her company Groundwork Endurance purchased the race in 2018, and well-known local marathoner Meb Keflezighi joined as co-owner for the 2019 race. They are managing this year's 5K as well.
Presented by National University, the 35th running of the Carlsbad 5000 is Sunday March 22nd, with the Junior Carlsbad on Saturday the 21st!
If you haven't done so, there’s still time to register online.
The Carlsbad 5000 weekend, is a “Party by the Sea” because of all the activities, fun and live music, especailly at the end of the event.
There are multiple races on both days: Saturday’s Junior Carlsbad races - a diaper dash, toddler dash, and ½ and 1-mile races for kids 7 to 12; on Sunday, the Carlsbad 5000 (with different races by age category) and the All Day 20K (four 5-k races) plus the Party People Race.
The fun includes a Wellness Festival in Carlsbad Village, located in the parking lot at Roosevelt and Carlsbad Village Drive, from 8 until 1 on Saturday, then again on Sunday beginning at 7 am. Attendees will find samples, equipment, apparel and more from multiple vendors.
Don’t miss the post-race celebrations on Sunday with live music and more, including 2 free beers from Pizza Port for participants in the beer garden (ages 21 and over with ID).
The Carlsbad 5000 is very popular, and there will be lots of participants and spectators, so arrive early to find parking in the Village and along the course to cheer on the runners and enjoy the festivities. Keep in mind that, as with other Carlsbad races, there will be a number of road closures, too, including Carlsbad Boulevard (the Coast Road).
