Boast-a-Post - Patricia Kennedy's Are You A Realtor® Who Blogs Or A Blogger Who Sells Real Estate On The Side?
I've loved Richie Alan Naggar's challenge since the moment I heard about it - and we have had some excellent shares in his challenge this month too! First of all, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to host this month's challenge, Richie. We are all ever so grateful!
Now, for the dilemma...of the thousands and thousands of posts I've read here in the Rain over the years, which one stands out the most? Oh boy - maybe I'd better think of another way to select my post to boast; that approach certainly wasn't working! I forgot about my own post and knew it would come to me at some point during the month...and it did!
When asked by another member a couple of weeks ago if I knew if _______ sold any houses, I had to say that I didn't know (because I don't!). The comment that followed hit a nerve..."Well, [he/she] spends an awful lot of time on ActiveRain - I just don't think they offer much when it comes to 'hands-on' experience." BINGO! That was it! I remember a post about that by Patricia Kennedy that was written about a dozen years ago!!
The trick was to locate it and I did! Now, why did I pick this one? In answer to Richie's questions...
I chose it because it is still relevant today. Despite this post being written in the midst of The Great Recession, the question is still relevant, even in the tightest inventory market I've ever lived through. The post had fantastic first-impression qualities - she received 168 original comments (original - not from the author)!!
The impression that the post had on me, even all these years later, was that she asked the question that resonates with many - and the answer: we do sell real estate and barely have time to blog each week! I loved the comments - then and re-reading them again now - and I think the title really did pull her audience in, as do all of her post titles.
Here's an excerpt from Pat's post:
"Are you a Realtor® who blogs on the side? Or have you turned into a blogger who manages to sell a house or two between writing posts?
When Bob Stewart asked this question, it turned into the underlying theme of yesterday's RainCamp. And I had to boink myself on the head and think about for a moment.
There's no doubt about it. I spend a lot more time selling real estate than I do blogging, at least on most days. But I did have to ask, is my blogger persona is starting to impinge on my Realtor® self? And the answer, "No," did not just fall out of my brain! I mean, I do go to Active Rain to read comments before I sign onto MRIS to check out new listings!"
Another thing I loved about this post was reminiscing about RainCamps - what fun we had at each of them. The friendships forged at those gatherings are still going strong today for many of us. Whether active or inactive members in the Rain today, many of us still keep in contact with one another as well as referring business back and forth.
What say you? Do you visit the Rain before checking out new listings in your MLS or if you're not an agent, before checking your email in the morning?!
