So you have spent your wingers merrily at home, with the doors and windows locked to the outside dust and pollution. With the arrival of spring, it is finally time to open those doors and casements and let the house breathe free once again. Spring cleaning is the first deep cleaning process that your house goes through and has its roots in the Jewish ceremony of the Passover. Other cultures around the world have similar types of spring cleaning traditions as well.
From using a reed diffuser to a high-tech vacuum, here are some of the most effective and urbane ways in which you can start the spring cleaning process of your home.
Top Tips to clean your house that are unique to each room
- Bedroom
The bedroom is usually the place where you spend a lot of your time, both asleep and awake. This is why it is extremely important to keep this place as tidy and neat as possible. Dispose of anything that does not belong in the room, be it the old newspapers and magazines on the bedside table, or the pile of old clothes that you have been meaning to give away. The more space you free up in your bedroom, the better you’ll feel about being in that space.
- Kitchen
Yes, you do clean the kitchen every day after cooking your meals, but with spring cleaning, you will be mopping and rubbing every corner of it. This includes the extractor fan, the oven and the microwave and the fridge, to name just a few. Cleaning these appliances is absolutely necessary because they are being used during the preparation of food and drink. Don’t forget your dishwasher! Spring is a good time to clean it with a specialist cleaner.
- Bathrooms & Toilets
The bathroom is another place that you use daily, but also one that requires an intense amount of scrubbing once in a while because of the number of bacteria it can harbor. Spraying the walls with disinfectant and then turning on a hot shower can really help get rid of the stubborn stains and patches of dirt on the walls. Do not forget to clean the ceiling of the bathroom as well, because it is equally important. Equally, use a toothbrush to rub a little bit of bleach into the grout between the tiles. You will be surprised by the effect this has on the overall feeling of cleanliness in the room.
- Living Room
You are constantly hosting guests and people in the living room, so a lot of waste actually builds up in its nooks and crannies. It can be easy to overlook these small pockets of dirt, but during a spring cleaning session, you should move all your furniture and proceed to give the living room a good mop down first. Sofas and curtains should be vacuumed and washed too, for good measure. How about a few new accessories, such a new set of accent pillows, a beautifully perfumed candle, maybe a new lamp or painting? This is cleaning of a different type but one that is most enjoyable.
- Hallway & Stairs
This is the first place where your guests and family members enter your home. Pay particular attention here, as it creates a good first impression. Ensure the hallway not only looks clean but also smells pristine. The finishing touch for your hallway could be a fresh bunch of flowers, beautiful for your eyes and nose!
- Outdoors – front & back
Now that your house is clean on the inside, what about the outside? Remember, the outdoors are an extension of our home. Obviously, it is important that the front of your home is clean but you may want to check for moss that may have built up during the winter. How about adding some Spring Flowers at the front of your home as a final touch? Speaking about the front, what about some blooms for the back? It certainly much nicer to look out at flowers.
You should remember that while cleaning your house, it is always better to start at the top and work your way to the bottom. Obviously, how you would do this for your house would depend on its layout, the amount of accumulated dust and dirt and your own personal preferences.
