Is there a full moon? Maybe I was complacent that the spring market came in the middle of winter here in NH. That there was a steady flow of new listings. That there was a steady flow of buyers. That I have the unique ability to match the two and sell more houses the first two months of a year in 34 years of selling real estate. Last week something weird happened. The phone stopped ringing. What was different?
You only had to turn on the TV to see the market going down and Corona Virus fears dancing through peoples heads. You had two groups of people forming. Those who wanted to lock themselves in their homes and those whose lives go on, but with caution. Come Saturday I was prepared for a slow day and taking Sunday off. Then as fast as they slowed, the phones started to ring again.
Being out and about talking to people got me a great insight what the public thinks. As they got more information, fear subsided. Not knowing breeds fear, so having public officials to our Governor to the President finally come on TV and talk to everyone soothed those thoughts. Here in NH there is no panic. Home Owners were ready to list again. YES, one did ask about not letting sick people in their home when it comes time to show. That will be a great blog to expand to later in the week.
Buyers came back in droves over the weekend to see homes. SO, we are listing, we are showing and that means selling. The stock market bounced back Monday with a 1200 plus increase had people feeling better. The reality is you have more of a chance of catching the regular flu then COVID 19. There is nothing like hearing a sneeze though and seeing people scramble.
IN THE END most people see past the media's bias of "sensationalizing" anything to grab viewers. The hard fact is you should have been washing your hands before this and should keep washing them after this goes away. The media succeeded in interest rates dropping, so buyers get out there and buy. Sellers, the buyers are waiting. AND.. so am I, ready to assist you through each step of buying or selling a home.
