Charles Geschke

Managing Real Estate Broker with Fathom Realty PB00068179

Charles Geschke was born in Cleveland, Ohio back in 1939.  He attended Saint Ignatius High School before continuing his education earning a BA and MS in Mathematics from Xavier University, as well as a PhD in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University.  After graduation, he taught mathematics at John Carroll University from 1963-68.

In 1972, he worked for Xerox’s Palo Alto Research Center, his first project was to build a mainframe, programming languages and development of the tools that were used to build the Star Workstation.  In 1978, he directed research activities in the fields of computer science, graphics, image processing and optics.  In 1992, he was kidnapped from a parking lot in Mountain View, California by Mouhannad Albukhari and Jack Sayeh.  The FBI found the kidnappers 4 days later and Charles was released unharmed.  Both of them received life terms in state prison.

What you may not know about Charles is that he was the co-founder of Adobe Systems Inc. in 1982, I use Adobe®.

I am sure that must have been a scary moment for him, but what a fascinating man and what a life progression.

This may be the first story with a kidnapping in it that you've shared, James. How frightening. I abandoned Adobe years ago... found it too expensive and complicated to use and their customer service was awful.

I'm curious as to what the kidnappers demands were James Dray . I use a couple of Adobe's basic programs such as the PDF reader but their graphics programs are over my head and beyond my income for what little I'd use it.

Hi James Dray

The only thing I don't like about Adobe is the price AND it's good to know the story behind the story

I'm with Doug, the price point of late is pretty crazy. Although, where would we be without Adobe?

Checked Google, James Dray and yes, Charless Geschke was born in one of the astrological 'educated-mind' signs -  Virgo, September 11th  (1939).  Felt educated really important to him when he ended with a PhD in Computer Science.  A true, blue Virgo will always value lots of education and in fact are known as the perennial and life-time student.  He did very well.

I think that Charles Geschke was quite fortunate to have survived his kidnapping.
