Drowned Memories

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Ward County Notary Services

Memory MediaIt's not the Real Estate professionals place to advise clients as to what types of insurance they should purchase but if the subject should come up you may save your client(s) a lot of heart ache to let them know that when it comes to water damage more then one policy/rider may be a good idea.

Spring time is a good reminder that basements may get wet for one reason or another and often precious memories are stored in a box down in the basement.

Reading in the paper about the floods in Mississippi and the tornado in Tennessee made me think of the heartbreak I endured over loosing my families memories. I'm talking about my family from present and dating back even further then my own birth.

First time home owners often have no idea that a standard home owners insurance policy does not cover sump pump failure or a sewer back-up.

A Real Estate professional has enough to do in their own wheel-house without informing clients about tangents like insurance BUT if the subject comes up you may save them the heartache of lost treasures.

Bob, Good advice!

When the evac notices were given here. I took pictures of things we would leave behind, and the they are all stored in the cloud now. Ron scanned all the old pictures and we put the originals in acid free envelopes to preserve them.  A

Thank you Ron and Alexandra Seigel . I lost three decades of slides when we had a sewer back-up due to a City sewer main collapsing. It was really a heart ache and I hated having to tell my siblings what had happened.

Morning Bob.

My wife has over 5,000 on her phone.  Thankfully, they are also stored in the cloud.  As far as the photos before the cell phones came out.  They are stored in metal containers, safely tucked away

Good morning Bob. Having a couple, or more, insurance agents you can recommend is a good thing. High shelves are also a help! Enjoy your day!

Excellent point, Bob... standard home owner policies exclude quite a few things from coverage that many people believe are included. I always try to refer my clients to a top insurance broker who will cover off all those issues with them.

James Dray I thank god for digital photography. When I think of all the film and paper I wasted over the years trying to get the perfect shot I wonder what the waste has been.

I agree Wayne Martin but I think back to the last time I purchased a house (to dwell in) my agent did not suggest any add-ons what so ever.

Nina Hollander I think my broker was in a hurry the day I purchased home owners as he didn't suggest anything other then he thought I was wasting my money insisting on him selling me flood insurance. I'm glad I insisted!

Hi Bob... to me that's like saying my Realtor was in a hurry and steered me to the "wrong" house for our family. As far as I'm concerned, insurance brokers, mortgage lenders, inspectors, real estate agents, lawyers, doctors need to "make the time to pay attention to their clients." Those who don't do that for me are fired. I always tell my own clients that I will always make them feel like they are my only and my most important client.

I am fortunate to have a great insurance agent I recommend but it is also important for us to let our clients know that sometimes trying to save money on insurance cost you more in the long run.

It's that personal touch that your insurance agent gives that we all need to strive for Joe Pryor . When I was active I had a great agent to recommend as well.
