Throwback Thursday: The Local Yolk in Manhattan Beach CA

I first enjoyed the Local Yolk in Manhattan Beach waaay back in 1999 and it's been one of our favorite breakfast places since. There are a number of other popular breakfast eateries in the same area, but this is my fav.

My daughter had started at USC in 1998 and found out about the place from her friends, so on visits from Boston to CA to see her this was the eatery of choice for breakfast. Manhattan Beach is such a charming beach town to explore...but it gets crowded...and we have spent a bit of time there with our daughter, and then with her husband, and now with the grandkids.

We were there this past weekend for breakfast and I realized that so little has changed over the years. There is a huge menu - they are known for their omelettes - the service is prompt, friendly, and efficient. And you are 3 blocks (up hill) from the ocean, with peaks from inside depending on where you are seated.

It has a diner look and feel, including the plastic water glasses, and it seems like many of the staff have been there for years. My daughter and her family have been there so often over the years that they are readily recognized. I also have a Local Yolk t-shirt I bought years ago that I still wear to the gym on occasion.

It IS pretty nice - this view is slightly better since I took it from across the street, but I could see the ocean from the table we sat at on Sunday. It's a neat little town...and expensive...and the walks to the beach are good exercise with all the hills.

The Local Yolk thrives because of good customers like you, and you continue to eat there because of the quality services you get and good food too. It must be a very special place when the grandkids can be there with all of you too. Generational living, tasting good food, and enjoying each other's company at places that builds memories are the best neighborhood places to visit and enjoy.

We always go on the weekend and it's pretty popular and sometimes crowded, but it's a great place to take kids. The staff is very welcoming of kids and immediately bring them a small muffin and a little fruit after sitting down.

Me too Joe Pryor They don't know my wife and I at the Local Yolk but they do know our daughter and her family.

We had a fav restaurant in Somerville (next to Cambridge near Boston) a short walk from our home, and got to know the owners very well. He was the chef, she did all the managing, and we got to know the staff (some of whom were their family), etc. If always felt like dining in someone's home. Of course we spent a ton of money there, too! LOL
