The question is in the title. Should real estate agents also be social media influencers?
The answer is yes.
The real question should be "What IS a social media influencer?"
The answer is somebody who hold a bit of influence. In which case, everybody is an influencer - because everybody has some sort of influence. A father has some influence on his children. A friend has some influence from other friends. This is really what should come to mind when you hear the term "influencer". Millennials on a tropical vacation laughing while they tell you about the hashtag sponsored bracelet they are wearing should not be the first thing that comes to mind.
How Can Real Estate Agents Be Influencers?
1. Publicly Brand Your "Niche"
One of the reasons people keep coming back to the social profiles of social medioa influencers is because they have a "niche". This is a specific theme that they create content around. There are travel influencers, business influencers, DIY mommy influencers, etc. If you specialize in a specific type of real estate sales, then make that known in your online persona.
2. Establish Yourself as the Expert
When an influencer makes a recommendation, their followers are more iikely to trust that recommendation. This is because they have gained the trust of their followers that they know what they are talking about. This should apply to you with your local area and real estate.
3. Influence What Neighborhoods are Interesting
4. Make the Correct Recommendations
As the trusted real estate expert you can give expert opinions on what buyers and sellers can do to make the process smooth. What DIY projects will devalue a homeowner's property? What mistakes should first-time home buyers avoid? These are all questions you can answer.
5. Be Consistent
Consistency applies to frequency in posting, as well as the content of the posts. You should post at a regular scheduled time - wether that be once a week or once a day. This is to keep your audience engaged, but also to allow you to measure your results and take out the factor of posting time from the equation.
Additionally, don't post any "off brand" posts to your professional profiles. A picture of your dog graduating obedience school is great, but unless you are also including your dog in your other professional posts, it's best to keep that to your personal page.
