We Are Essential
I've seen a few movies in my career; 9/11, Lehman collapse, the CFPB crusades to name a few. But the Corona virus (COVID-19) will no doubt test the mortgage banking industry in novel and difficult ways. So it was heartening to receive this update from our COO today and amidst the great confusion about what tomorrow, next week and next month may hold.
To All Impacted Personnel in CA:
As you are now aware, as of the evening of Monday, March 16th, 7 counties in California (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Santa Clara, San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Cruz) have issued Public Orders directing all individuals living in those counties to shelter at their place of residence unless for certain “essential” activities, functions and business. “Banks and related financial institutions” are among the essential businesses which are exempt from the shelter in place requirement, and therefore we remain operational and will not be imposing a shutdown of your offices at this point in time.
These orders clearly indicate the urgency of the situation, and we encourage you to consult with your county office to become fully aware of the restrictions as they apply to you. Further, keep in mind that even “essential businesses” must comply with the social distancing requirements of the orders and the restrictions on gatherings of any number of people outside of the household. You should continue to work from home whenever possible, and avoid having non-essential guests in your offices. Gatherings for the purposes of marketing are also not permitted.
This situation is unprecedented for all of us, and we will continue to communicate as we know more about how this will impact you and your borrowers.
We are open for business. We are essential and we plan to live up to this responsiblity. If you are buying or refinancing and you need our help, get in touch today. We realize it's an unprecedented time and are happy to share our insight and experience with you.
