Ron and Alexandra Seigel hi Alexandra... you are so right... get out and do something and stop complaining and blaming. I'm so impressed by how the Charlotte business community has stepped up to support this free lunch program cause... we have way too many food-insecure children in our area.
My next door neighbor had a drive to collect food for kids as well, which was distributed at one of our Ballantyne schools yesterday. I did my part to contribute but was gob-smacked by the response she had to a Sunday late-day call for donations on NextDoor. Neighbors were dropping off food in droves. It did my heart good to see this.
Nina,
I am also loving the fact that the government has stopped bickering and are actually working together...I am rejoicing in all these actions, because that will make people smile, and smiles and laughter are the best medicine. A

Ron and Alexandra Seigel amen to that, Alexandra! This is not the time for political warfare... it's time to come together for the good of all.
I saw our senior center kitchen was open but dining area was closed. They start let you buy food and eat it away. Same with Starbuck coffee.
Our local realtor association is also out of action taking a sebattical in this time of distress. All the best.

Sam Shueh thanks, Sam... the impact of school closures on food-insecure children in our county is huge, unfortunately.
Barbara Todaro hi Barbara... not much we can do but take it one day at a time and contribute to and help our neighbors as we can.
Nina, it is wonderful to see these programs continue even though school is closed. Ours are doing the same.

Joan Cox hi Joan... the key thing about the food programs happening in Charlotte is that they are all driven by private citizens and local businesses... nothing coming out of the school system... they simply shuttered everything.

Nina this is good information to post. I am sure in the coming weeks many are going to be in need of these programs.

Morning Nina.
All the schools in the state are shut down. However, they are still open to provide breakfast and lunch to the students

I'm so proud of our community, Nina! People are coming together like I haven't seen since hurricane Hugo. These are stressful times for everyone but, one sure way to get through this is by giving of ourselves to others - it works wonders for everyone!

George Souto good morning, George... I suspect that in coming days, weeks, and months we will be seeing an awful lot of need out there. It's really quite frightening in some ways.
James Dray hi James... Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools announced two days ago they would open some 70 locations to provide meals to students who need them. Personally, don't know why it took them so long to make that announcement.
Debe Maxwell, CRS good morning, Debe... it really is heart-warming to see neighbors stepping up to the plate with offers of help. Then again, I've always said that I believe deep down people are kinder than we often give them credit for being.
Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 good morning, Sheila and Larry... hard to really wrap one's mind around about how these unexpected school closures are impacting food-insecure kids in our area... and we have way too many of them, in any event.
It warms my heart to see communities come together to help each other in need...
Happy Wednesday Nina Hollander

Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS hi Paul... amazing how enforced distance is pulling us all closer to each other.
Over 8,000 meals were served to students in our county on Tuesday. These are very important programs.

Roy Kelley hi Roy... while I think it's wonderful that thousands of kids get fed in our respective towns... it still upsets me that so many need to be fed.

I agree with you. It is a shame that so many children rely on the food they receive at their schools.

I love seeing these programs! A friend of mine is the superintendent for an elementary school district in a poor area and her district is loading up busses with lunches and delivering them to the students each and every day.

Roy Kelley hi Roy... it's unimaginable that a country so wealthy as ours and one that produces so much food has hungry children (and seniors).
Brian England hi Brian... these kinds of outreach program in times of crisis are so important... but it's also a shame that they are needed to the extent that they are.

Nina,
What a grand idea that is. It just illustrates exactly how we are looking at these times, less wringing of hands, and instead lend a hand to solutions. One of the neighbors have both parents working, and their son is now home, and they need to home school him. I have offered to walk their dog for them, and share food or anything else if they need something...they are also willing to share...I am going to ask aother neighbor if she is in need of anything. It is so easy to do that rather than sit around, grouse and blame...A
