Social Distancing In Washington State

Education & Training with Although I'm retired, I love sharing my knowledge and learning from other real estate industry professionals.

"Keep calm within the chaos."

Yesterday, our Governor signed a statewide emergency proclamation.  Here is an excerpt from the statement released Sunday, March 15, 2020:

“Given the explosion of COVID-19 in our state and globally, I will sign a statewide emergency proclamation tomorrow to temporarily shut down restaurants, bars and entertainment and recreational facilities.

“Restaurants will be allowed to provide take-out and delivery services but no in-person dining will be permitted.

“The ban will not apply to grocery stores and pharmacies. Other retail outlets will have reduced occupancy.

“Additionally, all gatherings with over 50 participants are prohibited and all gatherings under 50 participants are prohibited unless previously announced criteria for public health and social distancing are met.

“These are very difficult decisions, but hours count here and very strong measures are necessary to slow the spread of the disease. I know there will be significant economic impacts to all our communities and we are looking at steps to help address those challenges.

“Tonight, after consultations with me and with the Department of Health, King County announced that they will be taking these actions immediately. King County has been the hotbed of this outbreak and has the largest population center in the state. I have spoken to Executive Dow Constantine and I applaud their decision to act quickly. We will do a joint media announcement with more details tomorrow morning.”

Many states are following suit and some are going even further.

Below is a graphic I pulled off of the internet that makes it a bit more clear.

Stay safe and well, my friends!

We're on mandatory "stay at home" notice in San Francisco and 5 other Bay Area counties. We can get outside to walk/hike as long as we adhere to the 6' social distancing.

In the real estate world, there are no open houses or broker tours until at least April 7. We won't be showing properties. Staging appointments are canceled. Our photographers aren't photographing or making videos of our listings. I am "meeting" with clients and the potential buyers via Zoom, telephone conferencing, etc.

I drove by 4 grocery stores and visited two yesterday.  The parking lots were packed and there was no way social distancing was in effect with those long lines.  I feel for the checkers and employees of these stores.  Costco was a zoo.  The lines to buy gas were long and not one person could be seen washing the gas nozzles.  I think I will be visiting small stores with small crowds.  I may even think about those delivery services.  Stay safe.  Stay healthy!

Hi Lottie Kendall
I've heard about the lockdown in California.  Kind of weird, isn't it?

Hi Raymond Henson, SRES, GRI
I haven't even thought about going to the store for the last week!  Why add to the chaos when I have quite a bit of food and plenty of TP.  Stay safe and well, Ray.

Selling Homes Changing Lives

Carol Williams - I love the fact that all Governors in each and every state is sending us this message and staying in touch with residents. In Texas, we are fortunate because Governor Greg Abbott has been staying in touch with us since he assumed leadership as our Governor.

It really is comforting to live in a state when the Govenor takes special interest in his voters and the people who reside in his or her state.

Be safe and take care!

Hi Carol, as of 12:01AM this morning, 6 bay area counties are effected by the  "shelter in place" mandate--San Francisco, Marin, Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara and San Mateo. Fortunately, we can make essential trips for groceries, take-home food; to banks, hardware and drug stores, and a few other businesses deemed essential services. Pet can walk their pets, and fortunately for me, we can get out for walks/hikes/exercise outdoors following the 6' social distancing recommendations.

Hi Carol- Our area enacted something similar that went into effect at 8 this morning. We actually called in an order and picked it up tonight to try to help our local restaurants.  We can still get out to walk and go to the store or pharmacy and we've been asked to keep gatherings at no more than 10.

We seem to be adopting similar guidelines here in California.  Today, my health club, where I swim, shut down until further notice.

Hello Carol - for whatever reason, I didn't comment on this post when it was originally published but looking back at the date:  March 17, 2020.  It seems like such a short time ago but a distant memory as well.  It's been that kind of week...and I am sure this is just the beginning of the changes we will see.

Hi Carol:

So much has changed this week - our shelter in place order soon followed yours, and now NY and Illinois with others taking similar actions. Like nothing any of us have seen before. It's an excellent time for connecting online, on the phone, and here on AR with the challenges we all face.
