What Does this Crisis Mean for Moms to Be?

By
Education & Training

Imagine my dismay as I received a call from my doctor informing me that my husband would no longer be able to accompany me to my, now, weekly prenatal appointments.

Utter disappointment.

“Going forward only patients will be allowed in the office.”

As I heard those words, I couldn’t help but wonder what that meant for our impending delivery.

Will my husband be allowed in the delivery room? Will it just be me, a bunch of nurses, and a doctor that I didn’t really know?

Floods of thoughts came and I considered other mothers who are probably going through the same internal narrative.

What exactly is going to happen?

We had done everything “right”. We were financially prepared for this baby, had made the ultimate baby registry, and I had all of the latest “must-have” pregnancy items

I am literally in the middle of preparing my hospital bag, like all the experts suggest, not knowing if I’ll be forced to have this baby at home.

Like many other mothers, we were forced to cancel our upcoming baby shower. I’m not complaining, though. We’re more than blessed to be able to get everything that our little one needs.

But what about the parents who were depending on gifts to help them through this new season?

A few weeks ago, the world was perfectly fine. Now, many are living in fear, jobs are being lost, income is dwindling, and people are looking for answers.

We all want to know what to do in these times of economic and health uncertainty.

I never imagined birthing a child into a world of even more chaos than it’s been before.

So much is still to be figured out.

I’m praying for the health, safety, and sanity of all moms to be out there. We’ll get through this.

Update: If you've had your baby shower canceled as we did, here's a great resource on hosting a virtual baby shower.
