For the previous two year, every spring we have hosted an event in Bellingham Washington called Win. Make. Give. It's a three day event where we discuss strategies for being better leaders, ensuring our health, building wealth and ultimately deciding what we want our legacies to be. We bring in guest speakers, do a ton of workshopping and really explore these subjects in deep detail.
This years event has been cancelled for obvious reasons. But even before we had to cancel the event, we launched a podcast where Ben Kinney, Chad Hyams (you may remember Chad as the 'Voice of Reason' from IMSD) and I discuss all of these topics in depth. Each podcast is no longer than 30 minutes and it's a conversational format. There are some that are around 10-12 minutes as well and even a few quick hitters that are shorter.
To date, we have released 16 episodes of the podcast. I'll share with you a couple of my favorite episodes:
Episode 2: How Do We Win
In this episode, Ben talks about the concept of winning (and it's probably not what you all think) and how we are winning when we focus on what we can control. The amount of things you actually have full control over in your life are pretty few. Once you realize this, and you commit to focusing on what you control, your potential will explode. Episodes 11-16: Emotional Intelligence and the role it plays in leadership
In these episodes we dive into what factors make up one's emotional intelligence and how can we purposely set out to increase our emotional intelligence. So many of our own failures and successes are dictated by our own emotional intelligence but until you really understand what this means, or how you can build it up, you're left not really understanding the role your emotional intelligence plays in your life. These episodes really hit home with me because they apply to so every aspects of our lives; family, friendships and of course, business. Here is the direct link to the first episode in this series
Episode 7: David Goggins
We don't just sit and talk amongst ourselves....although we do do that. In some episodes we bring in a guest. In this particular episode Ben interviews "Toughest Man Alive" David Goggins. If you aren't familiar with this guy, he is the first person ever to complete Navy Seal Training as well as Army Ranger school and he also does these crazy ultra marathons. His story is one of understanding that you are responsible for your own life. One of my favorites quotes from David is 'no one is coming to save you'. It's a fascinating interview with a guy who has constantly pushed himself to do more than his brain ever thought he could do. Here is the direct link to this episode.
Or Start from The Beginning
There are plenty of other good topics in these first 16 episodes. I'd love it if you get bored over the coming days and weeks and you're looking for something to listen to to motivate you, keep you focused during these challenging times, or even if you're just interested in improving your own leadership skills.
