Living in a Bubble in the Midst of Extraordinary Times

By

It is so easy to feel we are living in a bubble, when outside forces are one reality, but your own reality is something a little different! This past week has been like that for me! I’m actually on day 5 of having not left my house.

Last Thursday evening, my grandson, who I hadn’t seen in a few years, came for a visit from Houston. John Luis has been attending Rice University there. He is graduating in May. Certain plans for activities began crumbling as a chain of health directives and self-isolation orders came to pass. Sacramento also experienced rains on most days!

With these challenges in mind, I put focus on cooking special dinners, with family time. We took the opportunity to put logs on the fire, and watched favorite movies, found on old DVDs, kept in the drawers of my entertainment center.

My grandson returned to Houston late last night. Although we didn’t venture outside as much, I will have warm memories of our time together, while California continues to self-isolate.

Oh how wonderful, Myrl! I know he was thrilled to have a home-cooked meal and spend time with his favorite grandmama! I hope the rest of his year goes smoothly for him.

Makes you think - how does one graduating from college right now, interview for jobs? I just can't imagine being so excited to graduate and faced with what we are facing now.

Myrl, How nice to have your grandson visit. Changes are happening daily, but spending family time, and your delicious looking meals was a great opportunity and a terrific bubble to be in!

That is wonderful and spending time with family is a great thing to do when we are having to stay inside and events are being canceled.

I have been thinking of fond memories as well. So thankful my husband and I just visited our younger daughter last weekend...since my county is declaring a 'stay at home' policy as of Tuesday!

Hi Myrl,
What a great reunion for you and John Luis.  How wonderful you were able to spend one-on-one downtime and share some amazing home cooked meals. I bet it won't be long before he wants to come back for another visit!

So glad you got a chance to spend quality time with your grandson!   Given our statewide "stay at home" order, the best we can do with our families going forward is video chats or Face Time.

Hi Myrl!

You know, I was positive I commented and gave you a like shortly after you posted this wonderful blog post. I don't see it here now! But I am leaving this comment and I gave you a like too! The funny thing is, a few other people commented on previous recent blog posts of mine saying they were sure they commented too, but it disappeared.  I wonder if there's another glitch and we are just assuming others are receiving our comments. Strange!

Anyhow, I really liked the photograph of you and your grandson. You made him a plate (platter) full of food, fit for a King! I can only imagine how much he loves to visit you and spend time with you too. He's such a handsom boy! They sure grow up fast, especially when they go off to school. You must be so proud of him too! I used to recruit the top interns for Abbott Diagnostics in Irving, TX from top schools. Rice and TX A&M is where we got the most qualified and nicest interns. They were all so smart and easy to work with. I'm sure your grandson will have a promising future.

I pray we get out of the bubble and our country and the people get healthy again. This all came about so unexpectedly. I miss my daughter, son, and granddaughter so much. I feel isolated and wish I could be with them too. There really is nothing greater in life than the love of family and to have them near is really a treasure. I hope you are all doing well and shall be reunited soon for one big Hoopla, in your usual Party style!

If ever you're lonely, and want to talk, let me know! For me, living alone was never lonely until now.
