Atlanta Buckhead Midtown -
COVID-19 and The Planet Mars -
Perspective
In Atlanta Buckhead Midtown Westside and everywhere else, confronting the ramifications of COVID-19 leads us to reflect on the concept of perspective - let's use the Panet Mars* as a counterpoint. Perspective reflects an attitude toward or a way of regarding something. Daily we learn more about the planet and daily we learn more about the virus. One thing we know about both COVID-19 and the planet Mars is that neither is under human control at the moment. (Further down in this post, you will find an amazing video from Mars.)
What we can control is our own personal and professional behavior during the COVID-19 crisis.
- Are we doing what we can to prevent the spread of the illness?
In our daily business practices, are we protecting ourselves and our Clients? Are we using video conferencing via Zoom or Skype instead of meeting in person?** To show a home for the first time, are we walking ALONE around a home using DUO or FaceTime so the Clients may watch from home instead of bringing the whole family to the showing? - Are we doing what we can to support our Clients in surviving the situation?
When visiting homes or sharing documents with Clients, are we practicing safety? At Atlanta Homes ODAT Realty, we supply gloves to Clients before entering homes we are showing and sanitizing wipes when we leave the homes after the showings. - Are we doing what we can to support our First Responders during this crisis?
When we go to get our own supplies, are we donating some to our First Responders at the same time? Fire Stations and Police Stations - just like eveyone else - are short of disinfectant and sanitizing materials. We may drop some of those supplies off at their doors without violating social distancing guidelines. - Are we doing what we can to support our elderly during this crisis?
As residences for Seniors are on "lockdown", many residents no longer have the option of a community bus going to the grocery. We may check to see if the buildings are accepting food donations to share with them. Meals on Wheels has gone to a two-week delivery and needs both donations and volunteers. Preparing for an upsurge in hunger throughout Metro Atlanta due to lost jobs, the Atlanta Food Bank seeks to increase its readiness.
In a situation such as we are experiencing now, looking at a broader perspective may give us comfort. While today we cannot control COVID-19, we can continue to gather facts and learn about what are the correct steps to take. While today as we look at the planet Mars, we cannot control its nature, we can continue to gather facts and learn lessons that will benefit us in the long run.
Let's hope we learn a lot about COVID-19 quickly so we gain some control over its brutal nature and halt its spread.
Now let's go and visit Mars.
*The planet gets its name from the mythic genealogy of Rome. So does the day we call Tuesday in English - martes in Latin. The god Mars was both a warrior and the guardian of agriculture. As with most of the Roman and Greek gods, he led a checkered existance. Although he fathered Romulus and Remus with one person, his love affair with Venus symbolically reconciled the two different traditions of Rome's founding. Wikipedia
