Governor Pritzker has stated that Real Estate Services in Illinois are considered essential services, and therefore exempt from the stay at home order.
We Realtors are not surprised. We know how essential our services are to our buyers and sellers. We still need to practice safety and care with our showings. But it's nice to see our industry recognized.
I have been out showing property and taking listings since this isolation business started. Caution is key. At the showing, I was with my older buyer. I told her to not touch anything. I had the lights on in the home and door unlocked when she arrived.
For the listing I took in person, I made sure the sellers used their own pens to sign and we kept a good distance from each other.
This afternoon, I think buyers in my area may have reached the peak of their tolerance for staying away from the house hunt. I got two incoming leads with folks wanting to see property.
Who knows where we go from here. One day at a time.
My listings did the same ... turn on all the lights... open all the doors... that way any buyers didn't have to touch anything. And when they arrived, we had them wear booties, or remove shoes ... and I wiped down all the railings. Weird, but workable.
Ohio just announced Shelter in Place effective Monday at midnight. Word has it that real estate is also included in the "essential businesses" category.

I am a bit surprised the "essential" designation is differing by state. We will see what the next week brings.

I dont think most of the population realizes how much the real estate industry drives the economy.
