Coffee...Why I Need It Now More Than Ever!! Or Do I?

"Rise and Shine", she hollered from the kitchen! Mike McCann Mach1 Realty and Robyn McCann 2019

"Coffee is on".  I knew it was, because I could smell it wafting through the house and down the hallway to our bedroom where I was trying to catch a late wink.  We have this little 'routine' almost every Sunday. And I am happy to let it play out when I can.

Let me explain why...it isn't easy, so you will have to try and keep up...better go freshen up your coffee first!!

Are you ready?  Let's go then....

My beautiful, smart, and stunning wife, Robyn, has an 8-5 job, 5 days a week, at the natural gas energy company here in Kearney. Been there 14 years today. She is awesome at what she does and knows what she is doing at almost any given time between 8 and 5. I can set my clock to when she leaves the house in the morning...even to within two minutes of when she will get home in the afternoon..(if I am at the home office).

So 5 days a week she gets up at 5:55AM to get ready to leave for work at 7:40 AM.  Like clockwork.  ME? I go down stairs and lay back down for an hour or so. ie: We get up...we make the bed...she goes to the shower and I go back to another bed...and go back to sleep. Somewhere in there she makes a pot of coffee.

Then on Sunday's, she likes to get up and watch the CBS? show that has been on for decades...and likes to watch the first part alone!! You know the show...the one with the cool sunshine logo!!

Robyn once had a real estate license...we happily worked together for one year...and I loved it...but she likes to know what she is doing every day and during the day. She loves routines and in our industry of real estate...even with the current situation...well, it is anything but routine!

Way back in the 1990's I had an office at Re/Max Real Estate Group in Colorado Springs.  Robyn joined me in late 1997 and part of 1998 and it was great! She is so strong where I am weak. (Still)  We were kicking tail and taking numbers.  Still to this day in the top 5 of years of our annual family income.

We did not drink coffee then...maybe that is the reason.

I moved our Re/Max office to a home office in early 1999 as we were building a home with an office in it and it was 25 minutes away from the Re/Max office during heavy traffic which seemed to be all the time.

I have worked out of the home office ever since and love it...yep over 20 years! But that is a story for another time.

Alas...my dream of us working together for decades as a team were dashed after our 1 year agreement to work together was up.  We each had said we would try it for a year and if either did not like it we would stop. And she hated showing houses to strangers and she hated not having her routines. We had an 8 year old and a 3 year old so I was fine with her being there for the kids.  She worked part time doing data entry from the home and worked around the kids schedules.

SO how does this all tie in to Sunday morning coffee?  Well..... Mike McCann Mach1 Realty

Robyn is one of those people...as are some of you...who does not want any interaction with anyone...not even the love of her life...let alone her spouse...for the first XX number of minutes every day.  NO talk...no nothing...help make the bed and leave me alone and don't look at me kind of person.

I do not remember her being like that back in the day before kids...but young love probably knocks us out of many of our routines. She prefers to not see my happy smiling chirping face for about an hour every morning.  That includes every day except Saturday. Ad definitely not before she has a cup of coffee...with the Saturday exception.

Saturday is the morning she wants to sleep in a little and wants me the hell out of the room!! So I drag my sorry butt out to the coffee pot...with a stop at the hallway bathroom on the way...and make a pot of coffee. She prefers Dunkin Donut brand....

Note: It is 8:50 am here in Nebraska on 3-23-20.  Just got a call from the now 95 year old farmer and WWII Navy vet  client to come out for...wait for it...COFFEE!!  He asked if I had the "crud" and I said NO...he said then get out here he has some stories to tell me. If you are wondering who this is...go back a couple of my blogs and you can read about him.  I will be back in...not guaranteed...about an hour and a half as he lives only a few miles away...

Well...I am back...I spent the entire morning there and then business cropped up and all of a sudden it is Friday PM!! My trusty Contigo coffee thermos is by my side!!

So since it is Friday... that means you know what is going to happen...right?  Sort of.. anyway...tomorrow morning I will be up early...plus have a listing appointment at 1pm...and hopefully our daughter Jaime will be home for a few days...and guess what? ...she is just like her Mom in the looks department AAAAAANNNNDDDD  in the mornings...so a double dose of ignoring my happy smiling face first thing on Saturday!!

So I am quickly reminded as I take a sip of coffee that I just poured and is very hot...stay safe from the apocalypse and be smart with your decisions.  Perhaps someday we will have a cup of joe together...either in person or on the Internet!!

Can you figure which one of these beauties is my wife and which is my daughter? Until Next time...we'll keep the coffee hot for you!!

When I saw her picture I immediately remembered working with her, but had forgotten you worked together! We spent so much money working out of an office, and '99 was the year I figured it was wasted money.  Love you, sir, and hope you're find immense peace during these less than peaceful times.

Hi there, Mike, I really enjoyed reading this and had to chuckle, my husband is the one who is slow to wake up in the mornings. He is not much for chit chat either until he's had enough coffee.  However, we do generally watch the CBS Morning Show together. D

A java, the elixir of life!!  Hard to give up the coffee habit it seems.  But it can be done, IF you wish.  I never make it at home.  Must go out and get it and then there are danishes, and friends to talk to, and before you know it your whole morning has vanished!!!!  Thanks for the story!

You are certainly a talented writer and I love this story! It is very relatable and funny, too. Now that we are in a stay-at-home order, all I have left for coffee is that decaf jar that has been shoved to the back of the pantry.  I've been "decaffeinated" for a while now!
