10 Home Maintenance Projects To Do Today:

It is a GOOD possibility that you have more time on your hands than normal to twiddle your thumbs....

According to Governor Walz 80% of us are staying home more than normal. My guess is that over the next week or so we will all be spending even a little "more" time at the homefront.

So what do you do when the novelty of being home all the time wears off? I have a few ideas.
Seeing as this is a real estate blog I figured I'd stick with housy type ideas (for now)... and maybe... I'll just make it a running list as time continues to march on.

1. Change all the batteries in your smoke alarms. If you didn't already tackle this task this spring now is a great time. Even hardwired alarms have battery backups so it's a great idea to avoid those pesky little chirps if you can.

2. Change your furnace filter. We are just coming out of heating season and using that furnace all winter likely have a bit of dust blocking up our clean air. If you haven't changed your filter lately... It's a good time to take care of that task.

3. Clean out the dryer filter and vent. In the last couple weeks our furnace needed a new belt so we ended up cleaning out the vent in the back of the dryer. Oof. If you haven't lately? Now is a great time to tackle this dusty task!

4. Vaccuum off the central air unit. With the snow thawing now is a GREAT time to make sure that your centrail air unit is free of leaves and debris clogging it up. May as well get it ready for the summer heat!

5. Wash the windows and clean the screens. If we can't hang out with our neighbors we might as well be able to see them, right?

6. Clean the garbage cans. I don't know, but every spring we wash out the inside of our garbage cans. It keeps them from getting smelly after holding our smelly garbage all winter.

7. Tighten up the screws. Do you have cabinets or doors that squeak or hang funny or don't align because they are loose? What a great time to go through and make sure all is in tip top working order.

8. Check the outlets. Have you taken time to check your electric outlets lately? Are all of them up to code? Do any need to be swapped out for GFCI?

9. Fix the drippy faucets. Do you have any leaky seals that have been waiting for  a spare moment? Now is a great time to take the project on!

10. Clean out those appliances. The microwave, the stove, the fridge...

If you are anything like me there are some projects that easily get done on a regular basis and some that get put off for one reason or another. This is just a list to get the juices flowing. A way to stamp out the time while we are distancing for awhile.
