Why The Ardrey Neighborhood In Charlotte's Ballantyne Is So Special

By

What Makes My Neighborhood Of Ardrey In Charlotte's Ballantyne Area So Special?

Ardrey in BallantyneLocated in the upscale Ballantyne area of south Charlotte, Ardrey is a truly unique 349 home neighborhood featuring historic and classic Charleston and Victorian architecture. Painted in a rainbow of colors (my own house is a hydrangea blue color as you can see in the picture to the left), Ardrey homes feature authentic and Adrey Street And Parkhistoric architectural details...  all with front porches, side screened porches ~  which give the Ardrey neighborhood a singular charm and timeless appeal.

Whenever I'm asked where I live and I say I live in Ardrey... the immediate response is "oh yes, that colorful neighborhood that looks like Charleston. I love that neighborhood!"

Ardrey Community PoolArdrey is situated on 53 acres of common space with 12 named pocket parks inside the subdivision. Ardrey features great amenities, which include a clubhouse, pool, fitness center, bocce court, dog park, children's playground, and a 35 acre nature preserve.

With sidewalks on both sides of the street, Ardrey is a true walking neighborhood where residents get to  know their neighbors as they take an evening or morning stroll or walk their dogs.

Ardrey residents love sitting on their front porches -- to watch the world go by, to chat with neighbors passing by, and to entertain. I love sitting on my neighbor's porch each Halloween helping give out candy to neighborhood kids. It's a 3-hour long block party every October 31st.

Ardrey is an award winning neighborhood. In 2005 Ardrey was named North Carolina "Community of the Year" by the North Carolina Homebuilder's Association. Cunnane Group, a local, luxury home builder, who developed and built Ardrey, also won the award for "Best Landscape Design" for the community. A canopy of trees cover Ardrey streets. Its parks are beautifully landscaped as are the private yards of the residents. It's a "feast for the eyes" to stroll through Ardrey regardless of season.

What's The Neighborhood Like?

Living in Ardrey is like going back in time into an old-fashioned neighborhood, while the interiors of the homes offer high end, custom finishes and a 21st century lifestyle.

Ardrey goes all out decorating its homes for the Christmas holidays and we attract a great number of people from all around the Charlotte region driving through our streets to enjoy the festive lights. The neighborhood is consistently rated one of the best Charlotte neighborhoods to visit to see Christmas lights. Imagine street after street of houses decked out with twinkling lights.

Homes in Ardrey range from 2,700 to over 4,000 square feet with an open-concept floor plan. All the homes feature two or three car garages, screened porches, front porches, spacious rooms with 10 foot ceilings, custom finishes such as 4-piece crown molding and extensive hardwood flooring. All of the homes have spacious first floor owner's suites and many of the plans offer an additional bedroom or two on the main floor. Although Ardrey is not an Active Adult community and we have many younger families in the neighborhood, these floor plans with multiple bedrooms on the main floor very much appeal to empty-nesters and seniors who don't want to live in an age-restricted community, but still want to enjoy primarily one-story living.

Lawn maintenance is handled by the homeowner association, providing Ardrey homeowners the best elements and convenience of town house living in a single family neighborhood. For those of us (like me) who no longer want to fuss with yard maintenance, this is a great feature of the neighborhood.

I've often said we may have more four-footed residents in Ardrey than two-footed residents. Ardrey dogs adore the dedicated dog park... when it's not raining, our Bingo can't wait to get to the park each morning to play and run with his doggie friends.

Prime Ballantyne Location

Ardrey is located in the heart of Charlotte's trendy and popular Ballantyne area. All the shopping you could want is within minutes of the neighborhood, including two large outdoor shopping centers (Blakeney and Stonecrest) which feature grocery shopping, high-end boutiques, spas, casual and fine dining restaurants, movie theatres, etc. Carolina Place Mall and Carolinas Medical Center/Pineville are less than five miles away. Ballantyne Village, the world-class Ballantyne Resort and Spa, the Ballantyne Golf Course are all also accessible within minutes. The latest additions to south Charlotte's shopping and dining scene, Waverly Place and Rea Farms are but minutes away. All the major medical practices in Charlotte maintain offices in Ballantyne/Blakeney, as well. Nearby are Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Providence Country Club, Ballantyne Country Club, the TPC Piper Glen Golf Club, horseback riding facilities in nearby Waxhaw... and much more.

Ardrey provides easy commuting to the Ballantyne Corporate Park, South Park, Matthews, Fort Mill, Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.

Nina Hollander - Clearly, I see Southern charm, front porches for Sweet Tea or Fresh Lemonade, and good conversations with friends and neighbors or airy outdoor spaces on your own property to read and relax under the covered porch. And of course, I see a fence and gate for your dog too! Yes! I would say Ardrey neighborhood provides all the comforts of home!

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP hi Patricia... and I'm happy to call Ardrey "home." Our dogs were always electronically fenced until we moved to Ardrey... lots are just too small for it, so a "real" gate it was.

Nina,

What I loved most about our visit to North Carolina, were the porches.  There is something about that screams Southern Charm.  I felt your love for the place via this post.  A

Ron and Alexandra Seigel hi Alexandra... thank you. Porches are a very "southern" thing and when I work with clients moving here from somewhere else in the country one of the first things they often ask for is a front porch... even if they never sit on it! When I have a listing with a front porch I always highlight that fact... porches sell.

Hi Nina:

What a wonderful post with all the information about your beautiful neighborhood that anyone could want. Love the color of your home and the porch reminds me of New England where they are so much more common than here in SoCal.

I feel like I have actually visited Ardrey after reading your post and enjoying your photos! I bet homes that come on the market don't last long!

Jeff

Roy Kelley hi Roy....  I suppose one can't be too careful. We have no choice at my end... last week we were a shelter-in-place city/county through mid-April. As of tomorrow, we are now a shelter-in-place state through the end of April.
