Aloha Friday from Paia Maui - sugar cane train mural

A hark back to days long gone by now, when sugar cane dominated the landscape and there was a railroad on Maui.  It's a nice painting on the side of an old building in the little seaside town of Paia.  Paia was once a busy hub of industry, with a sugar mill and a large population of workers.  That's Haleakala - House of the Sun - in the background.

Paia Maui - sugar cane train mural

It doesn't look quite like this anymore on our lovely island of Maui, but many of us can remember those days.  Looking ahead, we have no idea what will take shape in the next few years.

Now is the time when we can all practice ALOHA.  For the time being, please stay home and let's all do our part to keep everyone safe from the Corona virus.

If you happen to be looking for a home in Paia - search the MLS for Paia homes here.

PS. Didn't I read that visitors to Hawaii have to remain in quarantine for two weeks? That pretty much eats up vacation time, I would guess. Same for Alaska, I think.

My kids use to look forward to riding the Sugar Cane Train out of Lahaina. They often would know all the songs by heart that they would be serenaded to as they rode the rails, so to speak.
I know that isn't the full history of the train but my kids will always remember that was a part of their vacation...

Georgie,

Love that mural and love how it expressed the feeling of Maui.  On our first anniversary we flew to Hawaii, and spent a part of the trip in Maui, on the Lahaina side...now we prefer the Kihei side, not as crowded or popular.  A

Thanks for all your nice comments.  Yes we are staying home and playing it safe.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD Yes all arrivals are required to self quarantine for 14 days.  Many hotels have already shut down.  Haleakala and other parks are closed.  It wouldn't be much of a vacation.  It's a shame that the airlines are offering $100 fares to people, and people are actually buying them at this time.  The general sentiment from people here is "please don't visit Hawaii".

Joe Pryor It's kind of obvious that there are too many people in this world, and too much air travel.  Maybe that's not the kind of progress we need.

Aloha!!!

Georgie Hunter R(S) 58089 - What a gorgeous mural. It's so beautiful and energizing to look at too! I have never been to Maui but this photo tells a great story about the history of once upon a time...

We need stories like this to remember and learn from our past. Sugar is sweet. So are good stories from our past. I love the colors, the details, and the scene. It give me peace.

Thank you! You gave me more happiness today which compares to nothing else today. Thank you!
