Make The Most Of The "Stay Home" Order | Test Semi-Retirement !!

As I was thinking for the moment, my thoughts were triggered by Michael Jacobs and his pondering! My thought for the moment reflects my daily routine of “working from home.”

I call what I do semi-retirement because I continue to plug away at marketing every day. I’ll admit that recently my thoughts have been elsewhere!

However, for those of you who have not created a plan for exiting from the profession, this might be the ideal time for you to experience what you’ll be encountering if you begin retirement with semi-retirement by marketing for others.

There’s discipline involved, along with focus. During this period of “staying home,” it’s a good opportunity for those who are fully active in the real estate business to test the “working from home” venue.

Test it out!! Have a game plan in place for the next few weeks. Market your business, as you would if you were working in your office. Track your hours, and what you’ve accomplished for marketing materials.

Yes, this is just a thought for the moment….

Morning Barbara.

I am in semi retirement.  I do what I do because I want to. Full retirement for me, is just not something I'm thinking about, but who knows what will happen, tomorrow

Barbara, Larry and I stopped working from an office many years ago. Didn't need to be where most agents only cared about which Broker Open House they were going to have lunch at...As far as semi-retirement, we always say when we don't have the "drive" for real estate anymore, we will leave...

Semi-Retirement fits me well. I don't see completely going off into the sunset. I do enjoy working with clients, at my own pace of course. Stay safe.

Hi Barbara Todaro

You will always be part of your family business. It is just part of your nature.  I take things in 5-year increments.  I have plenty to keep me busy, so I know there will never be any boredom in my household. Real Estate will always be part of my life.

I always said I work better in the office, but since I moved home a couple of weeks ago, I've accomplished 10 times more than I did in the office.

My routine hasn't changed much, except for the drive to the office and the interaction with everyone there.  I miss that.  But now there's Zoom, Facebook messenger and so many more apps, it's still interacting.

This is suppose to be our slowing down time and easing out of real estate.  I'm just not ready to give it up yet.........I love helping others too much.

Many should pay very close attention to your advice.

Sadly, I did not have family members to take over my business.

Hi Barbara Todaro,

You pondered years ago and came up with an excellent plan and have it firmly in place. You have found another passion and it is exactly what excites you! Why not make it into abusiness of helping people stay on track keeping healthy! Love it!

The right Charlotte REALTOR!

I saw this post on Saturday and laughed because I had just said to someone that I think this is going to weed a lot of the low-producing agents out of the business and send others into retirement!

What a wonderful choice you have though, Barbara - to taper down what you're doing and help others with fitness or keep doing what you're doing. It's so nice to have a choice. Sadly, I don't think many real estate agents think far enough ahead to plan for that.

So far this has shown me that I’m not ready for a complete Retirement. I’m starting to climb the walls and losing track of what day it is

My wife is semi-retired and works one time a week.  She loves it.  This has put me into semi retirement for the time being and yes, I am trying out some new marketing.  It is tough, though.  My wife keeps telling me to retire!  I am just not ready.  I like being an agent.

I can't even imagine the idea of retirement. When there's nothing I MUST do, I find there's nothing I want to do.

I do not want to relax all day - what a bore!

This cooling down period is certainly food for thought! You have more energy than a lot of 20 year olds! I love your idea of testing it out and you always have a plan! You give us all thoughts to ponder!!

I love the freedom and flexibility of working at home.  Before real estate I had an At Home business -- for 18 years.  Now 26 years in real estate, I have done both in home and in office.  I love working at home. In fact I don't know that I will ever completely retire.  It's not in my genes!

Good morning, Barbara... I've technically been testing retirment by working from home for almost 21 years now. We moved to Charlotte to retire... meantime, I continue to work 50-60 hours a week... I guess retirment is not quite in my DNA. :)

Great point Barbara.  It's a bit crazy right now and our mental state is being tested, including considering what it would be like to be semi-retired.  Thanks for the thoughts!
