NEW CONSTRUCTION UPDATES
Gusty winds and abundant heavy rain on March 28, 2020 led to the ice leaving most harbors on the Bay side of Door County overnight. While seasonal temperatures in the 40s this week will still keep the Door Peninsula cool, you can tell spring is truly here, with signs of new spring growth showing up around Door County in our landscapes, gardens, state, local and county parks.
It's still way too early for leaves or for our blossom or cherry predictions,
but little signs of new life are cropping up everywhere.
This is a good thing, as traffic is getting heavier and snow-birds are returning. Many communities (and the County itself) are asking for a 14 day quarantine in place for our returning seasonal residents, and we are still under a "Shelter in Place" until April 24, 2020. This doesn't mean you can't get out and exercise (we walk the dog a LOT) and, judging by the number of cars I saw while working in Gills Rock yesterday, a lot of people are returning to the idea of an old fashioned "drive around town" up and down the peninsula to help break the monotony.
Many local restaurants are still serving, and social media (Facebook, Instagram) is the best place to see their daily and nightly menu choices, some offering delivery and most offering curbside service. Our grocery stores are still open and, for the most part, well-stocked. Support our local businesses if you can, and a novel way to do it is by Think Local Door County, where buying Door County merch will directly benefit the small business of your choice through April 1, 2020. (You'll choose your local business at checkout). A lot of us are busy homeschooling, and I attended church today online via YouTube and Facebook. As you can do nearly anything online today, take the opportunity to learn a new skill (for free), find out what all the fuss was about Game of Thrones, the Walking Dead or watch a Broadway show, read a great book or even attend your favorite fitness class online. It's the current new normal, and while I'm not exactly embracing it, I am SO thankful and grateful that as of this writing there are no recorded cases of COVID-19 in Door County. That may have changed by the time you read this.
WHAT ABOUT DOOR COUNTY REAL ESTATE?
Real estate in Door County and in Wisconsin is still considered an essential service by our state government, but we are under stringent new precautions for our safety and for yours. As such, I'm still working 20-30 hours per week (as I usually work 60 by March/April because of new listings, but the majority of new listings will hold off until later this spring/summer this year). However, you may find a Seller that has been on market over the past winter very eager to sell, so there are still deals to be had RIGHT NOW and interest rates are great. As I wrote last week, our office is under precautions, and our closings are done exclusively via drive-up or by mail. I've done a ton of FaceTime tours over the past few weeks, and some of my most popular posts have been of our new construction--watching new homes being built with weekly changes--in Northern Door.
