Explainer videos are an excellent way of communicating for brands, that is if the stories are told well. In order to have a good explainer video you will need to first have a good explainer video script.

You can have the best visuals with a weak script, and it will inevitably ruin your video, making it uneventful and baffling to viewers. Many brands fall short because they don’t realise jus how important a great explainer video script really is.

Why do explainer video scripts work so well?

Explainer videos achieve great results for a number of scientific reasons. The audio ad visual channels are said to work differently in one’s brain. When content is available with audio and visuals, the information is digested faster and much easier.

A good story will determine whether your company is successful in getting your brand’s message across. Many companies have a difficult time writing a script that is effective.

It takes time and work to make a good explainer video script. It may be difficult to explain concepts that seem complex, while also tell an engaging story in the process. This is why there are so few good explainer videos.

How to write a custom explainer video script

There are two important things to consider when writing a great script, the actual story and how you want to tell the story. The story is fundamental to a good explainer video so it is of utmost importance to get it right. Here are a few things to consider:

1 . What is your story? It is important to understand what is your story first before you can convey the message. Don’t wait until the last moment to come up with a story idea. You must understand what is the point of your story and how you will drive that point. It is sometimes quite distracting to wonder around without having a clear understanding of what point you are trying to convey. Your story will either be a problem solution type or a walkthrough process. Deciding which type you want to make, will help you to make a better and more effective video.

Problem solution — here you will make your point by showing the viewer a problem that they can relate to, and offering a solution using your product. You will use this way by making the solution seem as natural as possible and leave your viewers wanting your product or feeling as though they cannot do without it. Ensure that the problem does not take longer than the solution, you want your audience thinking about your brand when they are done with the video instead of thinking about the problem.

Process — this is often used when you are giving an overview on a service or a how-to video on a particular product. With this approach you will not need to portray a problem but rather outline your story clearly and concisely.

You may find that your video does not fit into either of these categories which is totally okay.

2. Break down your story — ensure that the concept of your story is simple. Break down the idea using layman’s terms. Even if you know your audience is educated, you should still endeavour to convey your message and information simply. Keep your video exciting, fresh and engaging and try to make videos that are shorter as this shows the viewer that you respect their time and also see it as valuable.

3. include your viewer in the story

Look for ways to include your audience in the narrative without being overly technical. Make the content relatable and relevant, this is how you will capture and keep your audience’s attention. It is important to maintain eye contact and speak in the second person voice so that your viewer feels as if you are talking directly to them. Try to use the language of the people you are targeting with your content.

4. be sure to add some emotion — if you evoke feelings of sadness or happiness in viewers that watch your content, they are more likely to remember your product or brand. Try to engage them from the start. Use your tone of voice, language and stats to convey messages in a way that will keep your audience interested.

There are so many pointers to consider when writing a script for explainer videos, in a way that is engaging and exciting for your audience. Ensure that you read as much as you can and make sure you consider important tips on writing great explainer videos.
