Virginia Governor Issues Stay at Home Order Until 6/10/20

The Governor of Virginia issued his Temporary Stay at Home Order on Monday, March 30, which will be in effect until June 10, 2020. There has been varying responses across social media ranging from relief, to incredulity, to anger.

Many, many people were hoping that we could all just go back to business as usual today, but science dictates that we do everything possible to stop the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19.

I won't go into detail about the science behind this decision, nor will I engage in political discourse about the subject. But I will highlight some of the provisions outlined in the order and how it will affect real estate businesses across the state.

You can leave home for the following:

– Grocery, pharmacy, doctor, essential social services, and emergency services

– Taking care of other individuals, pet-sitting, visiting family members

– Court ordered travel such as is required to abide by custody agreements

– Taking exercise, but must maintain 6-ft social distancing

– To/from church or work

– Volunteer work, and

– "Leaving one’s residence due to a reasonable fear for health or safety, at the direction of law enforcement, or at the direction of another government agency."

Gatherings of 10 or more are still prohibited and will now be enforced, this is a misdemeanor offense.

Colleges and universities must cease all in-person classes.

Campgrounds have to cease all reservations of stays for less than 14 nights.

Beaches are closed for everything except walking and fishing, social distancing applies.

Housing authorities are ordered to help prevent homelessness by avoiding evictions and foreclosures

Medical care, food banks, media, police and government are excepted from this order.

What This Means For Real Estate and Red Dress Realty

We will continue to conduct buyer and seller consultations by video, using conferencing software or video calls.

We will offer virtual home tours for all of our buyers.

All in-person Open House operations will cease. We will offer virtual open house options for you should you choose to leave your home listed.

We will temporarily remove your property from the market should you so desire, until such time you feel comfortable re-listing it.

We will offer remote closing services.

We will continue to limit our own personal activities so as to minimize the risk of infection for ourselves and others.

The Bottom Line: We will do whatever it takes to keep you and your family safe.

Hi Cathy Baumbusch, thanks for this update from Virginia. These orders are changing daily, and it's difficult to keep up.

Yes, it is a scary thing. It's easy to get caught up in social media feeds also. I didn't even know that the governor was making an announcement. Right then I happened to call a fellow agent about a webcam that she bought and she told me she was about to listen to the press conference. So I tuned in online. I don't have TV, so I get all my news from the online versions of the stations.

Good Morning,

June 10 is the latest date I've seen so far.  Yikes.  Hopefully people follow the rules so that the quarantine doesn't have to be extended further. Stay safe everyone.

Good morning Barbara. Yes, it is a very late date. Some have expressed outrage at that date. I myself am very happy to stay as safe as possible, although it can make one a little stir crazy. I have actually gotten more exercise than I was getting before since I took being outside for granted. I walk around my block with my dog. I've also been drinking more water than ever. I have to be careful with my blood pressure. Be well.
