It is Easy to Love Kentlands in Montgomery County, Maryland
ActiveRain Ambassador Jeff Dowler has asked member bloggers to write about the perks of their home communities. Those have have followed my blog posts over the years are familiar with Kentlands, our home community, since I have posted hundreds of blogs about the area.
Kentlands is located within the City of Gaithersburg in the heart of Montgomery County, Maryland. The location is in the north west suburbs of Washington, DC. Kentlands is a preferred community for families relocated to the Metro area of the District of Columbia. Residents have the benefits of living in a small city with a very responsive local government while being located in a county that offers urban living at its best for the population of over a million residents. We have some of the best medical facilities in the county.
Kentlands is located in zip code 20878 which is the home for residents from over 120 countries. The diversity of the community provides a rich blending of the cultures from many parts of the world. When you shop at stores in Gaithersburg, you will usually hear conversations in multiple languages. When you hire contractors, the workers may be speaking in a language other than English.
Kentlands is a well studied example of a planned community with neo-traditional influences. White picket fences are common and the use of construction materials and designs has been carefully controlled. The neighborhood is very walkable. Most of the streets also have well lighted sidewalks and there are walking and jogging trails through wooded areas and around the lakes. Personally, I like to take photowalks to capture the beauty of the flowers. plants and trees in the area. The shopping, schools and many medical offices are within walking distance for most of the residents.
Commuters have the benefit of Ride On bus service in Kentland that provides easy access to the Metro rail service to DC and other urban areas and suburbs in Maryland and Virginia. Gaithersburg also has railroad service for commuters.
Maryland is currently under Stay at Home orders to protect residents during the coronavirus pandemic and is nice to have home delivery service available from multiple grocery stores, pharmacies and restaurants. We have received home deliveries from Whole Foods, Shoppers and Giant and just received a delivery from CVS. A Costco delivery is expected tomorrow. Dolores and I are staying at home even thought many grocery stores are offering morning hours for seniors to shop.
We enjoy the geographic convenience for day trips. Washington, DC, Baltimore, West Virginia and Virginia are within a one hour drive and Many locations in Pennsylvania and Delaware are within a two hour drive.
The photographs I have posted are from my photowalks through Kentlands.
