Cascading Snafus

From the web: "A cascading failure is a failure in a system of interconnected parts in which the failure of a part can trigger the failure of successive parts. Such a failure may happen in many types of systems, including power transmission, computer networking, finance and bridges. Cascading failures usually begin when one part of the system fails."

Not dramatic enough. Cascading snafus is much more satisfying terminology. My computer's embedded webcam is bust. Bought something on eBay which proved incompatible with my system. Thanks to an AWESOME acquaintance, who'd probably never forgive me if I name her, I now have a functional webcam. I have a back-up on order after my superbly-tech-savvy bloodhound-on-the-scent super-shopper 15-year-old son found me a back-up - not due until April 10 at minimum. I'm pulling together a makeshift green screen with green Science Fair posterboard, green bed sheets, tape and balsa wood because Zoom refuses to admit it can get along without one. Poor folk at Home Depot are so overwhelmed even a pick-up order of balsa wood is now several hours late. Go to put together my photography backdrop stand - which I use to hold my banner at home remodeling shows - and now it's bust. So off to Amazon again. But at least the replacement comes with a real green screen - not till April 22!

Virtual will be a reality. Along with much cursing, wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Ugh, sometimes everything seems to go wrong, one thing after another. Other days everything is a breeze. I wish you many of the latter.

When Amazon recently said they were only going to be focusing on medical and high purchased items, I started ordering elsewhere. It's amazing to find that there are still plenty of companies (besides Amazon) that ship stuff! Haha.

Hi Lauren:

Well, despite the cascading snafus (love that phrase although not the idea) you are experiencing you did write an entertaining post! Keep us posted - hope things all get resolved in a fairly timely manner!

Can you upload a background  photo, or create one, into Zoom, including some branding. I thought I saw in a video on using Zoom that you can do this in settings. But what do I know?!

Jeff

Jeff Dowler, CRS Zoom is configured to let someone upload a customized background, such as a logo, to his/her broadcasts. I've been able to upload my chosen image into a Zoom folder. But so far, Zoom is insisting that I need a green screen in order for it to process the image, and it isn't registering the screen. My research into the tech support files leads me to suspect that my "new" camera, the gift to replace the one I bought on eBay, is still unfortunately too old to work with Zoom. But it is working for me to make movies off my computer. Tune in tomorrow... Lauren
