How's it going working at home?

How is it going working from home? Are you adjusting well?

If you are struggling to find your groove I thought I'd share a few of my "secrets" to making it work for us. I would imagine that this would work whether you are homeschooling at the same time or not. Hopefully this list helps you on your quest to finding your peace while working from home.

10. Find times to listen to the news... and then turn it off. It's good to keep up with current events, but it can turn into all day drama on repeat if you don't intentionally turn it off.
9. Get up at the same time as normal and get dressed before your work day begins. If you are homeschooling this helps with the kiddos too. Getting dressed puts on the mindset that it's worktime.
8. Work regular hours. It is easy when you are working at home to put off starting or to break up your day extending your day longer than it needs to be. A regular schedule, even at home, can be beneficial.
7. Take breaks. Make sure to take breaks - to eat, to walk, to interact with those around you. Regular breaks are healthy.
6. Set up a desk area. Whether it's at a desk,  at the kitchen table or on the couch. Figure out where you are best able to concentrate for the time you need to work and make it consistant.
5. At the end of the work day - change clothes - take a walk - shake it off. This is important. It's kind of like a commute to the work place. It resets you for your evening.
4. Try to avoid mixing work activities and home activities. It slows everything down if you are getting up every three to five minutes to load the washer, start lunch, etc. This can be a bit hard if you have kids at home, but if you start the mix its easy to get off track and lose hours of attention.
3. Try to sync phone times and email times. In the morning and early afternoon I try to answer emails and phone calls. In between I will set my phone aside if I can to work on projects and files needing my attention. It isn't a perfect science, but it helps with my focus so that I don't get caught in the endless cycle of checking for messages.
2. Eat breakfast. It is hard to focus on anything but the fridge when you are working on a hungry tummy. This goes for the kiddos too! And, being at home together this is a great time of day to catch up!
1. Start with a to-do list. Every morning before I start working I run thru my to-do list and adjust it accordingly. It keeps me on track and helps me to concentrate.

For each and every home worker the day will look a little different. I'd love to hear your favorite tips for making your day work at home.
