One of the many many challenges people are facing right now is being trapped at home with multiple young children for weeks on end. For most people, the challenge is made worse by the fact that there's having to work at home and watch their schoolwork (and maybe even help them with their schoolwork.)
I used to homeschool either 2 or 3 of my kids (depending on what year it was) for over a decade. So I'm no stranger to being home with many kids for loooong amounts of time.
Over the past few weeks I've written several posts about kids' activities:
1) 18 Stay-at-Home Activities for Kids
This is just a free-form article that I dashed off one afternoon. I thought about our favorite books over the years, a creative kitchen activity that my two girls adored when they were preschoolers, and some simple craft ideas (like making a Froot Loop necklace.)
2) Free Printable Unicorn Templates and Coloring Pages
This post was inspired after my three year old next door neighbor came running across their front yard to show me her stuffed unicorn.
The templates come in 3 different sizes, and can be used for simple tracing or making more involved projects using cardstock or felt.
3) 6 Cool Science Experiments for Kids
Science experiments are always fun for kids, especially when they're colorful and/or involve chemical reactions. Here are some simple but fun ones I found.
4) Word Searches
I discovered that making word searches was pretty easy, made me feel just a tiny bit creative, and was something I could do while watching Frasier reruns on Hulu.
So far I came up with these:
* Free Printable Easter Word Searches
* Free Printable Earth Day Word Searches (which also includes an I Spy worksheet)
5) Free Printable Disney Coloring Pages
Sadly, there are a LOT of kids (and adults) out there who are HUGELY disappointed after recently having a trip to Disney World canceled.
For some, it was going to be their first trip. For others, they were going to celebrate a birthday.
While there's nothing anybody can do about it, they can at least have some Disney-themed fun at home during this time.
I can't create Disney coloring pages myself because of copyright issues -- but I did collect links to over 100 coloring pages of Disney pages and put them into a list.
Kids will find almost anything Disney-related there, from classics like Lady and the Tramp and Bambi to their favorite Pixar movie to Disney Junior characters.
So if your kids are running out of things to do, check some of these out.
And if you don't have kids in your house right now, consider sending one or two of these links along to someone who would appreciate them. Thanks!
Take care and stay safe,
Jen
