Farmers' Markets In Charlotte Are Open For Business: Shop/Buy Local

Farmers' Markets In The Charlotte Area Are Open For Business:

Why Not Shop Local & Support Our Local Farmers' Markets?

Despite the shelter at home orders in the Charlotte region, Farmers Markets are open for business. They are considered "essential" businesses. To show support for our local farmers and businesses, why not consider shopping for your fresh food at one of our wonderful Farmers' Markets this week and in the weeks to come? With so many businesses in the Charlotte area shuttered right now, what could be more important than supporting our local businesses than by shopping and buying local where and when we can?

"New" Farmers' Market Shopping Rules During COVID-19

If you decide to shop at one of Charlotte's local Farmers Markets, you should be aware of the "new" rules on how to shop and stay safe while doing so:

  • Advance, online orders will speed up your shopping trip and reduce exposure.

  • If you do order ahead, arrive later in the morning for pickup to lighten the load of early morning crowds.

  • If you don't order ahead, make your purchases and leave as quickly as possible.

  • Don't have more than one family member shopping.

  • Wash your hands before you head out and as often as you can while you shop. Many markets now have hand-washing stations.

  • Look, but don't touch! Just point to the products you want to buy.  For the most part, one person will bag the produce and another collect your money. Some markets will round up your purchase to the nearest dollar to avoid handling coins.

  • Maintain as much space as possible between yourself and other shoppers.

  • Sampling of products suspended until further notice.

  • Bring your own wipes to use once you get back in your car.

  • Most markets do not allow animals, so leave Fido at home.

  • PLEASE STAY HOME if you're not feeling well.

Hi Nina- we have a handful of Farmer's Markets open here, thank goodness. they are so important especially since many of us are using the curbside pickup at our local grocers.

Kathy Streib hi Kathy... I know that at least one of our farmers' markets is now offering curbside pick-up. Although that seems to defeat the fun of going to a farmers' market.

Hi Nina:

There is some great advice here for the farmers markets. You are lucky yours are open - most in my area are not although there is talk of opening the Carlsbad one up again but the timing is not clear. I miss ours!!

Morning Nina.

Alas, our local Farmer's Markets will not open for another two weeks or so.  You can bet, I'll start shopping there as soon as they, open the doors

Jeff Dowler, CRS good morning, Jeff... are your farmers' markets not open by choice or by fiat? Here they are considered essential businesses and have stayed open or the seasonal ones reopened.

James Dray good morning, James... that's one great thing about living in Charlotte -- we have farmers' markets open all year and then these are further "enhanced" but the seasonal ones that open from spring through fall. An embarrassment of riches.

No farmers' market here yet. There is a farm stand that has opened for the weekends and is doing curbside pick up only. I haven't been. We are staying put in our house, except for our daily walk.

Your post got me thinking of the many Farmer's Markets held in the Chicagoland area, Nina Hollander ... and the many farmers and workers that will be sidelined should they not be opened this Spring.  It's a little early yet here in the Midwest ... but summer is just around the corner.  Time will tell how this plays out in our area ...

Gene Mundt, IL/WI Mortgage Originator - FHA/VA/Conv/Jumbo/Portfolio/Refi hi Gene... let's hope that by summertime the worst of this will be behind us and local farmers can open up the markets.

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® hi Sheri... I haven't personally been out to any of the Farmers' Markets as yet. Yesterday was the first day I was out of the house in a week. So many "competing" stories about what is and isn't safe it's hard to decide what to do.
