Millions of Americans have been ordered to stay at home during the COVID-19 crisis. Many have taken advantage of some of their time while at home to clean, declutter, and organize their homes.
The process of doing so obviously minimizes the clutter that has accumulated within the home. But the exercise of decluttering and organizing produces benefits that go way beyond those solely revolving around the removal of physical clutter itself. It's been discovered by doctors and psychologists, that decluttering and organizing are beneficial in a myriad of ways ...physically, mentally, and spiritually. Decluttering and organizing provide us an opportunity to exercise some control over our lives.
It can also help us lower our anxiety levels. And in this day and age, who doesn't welcome that?
But declutteringin the age of COVID-19 faces an extra challenge ...
What do you do with all the no-longer-needed and unwanted items winnowed out during the organization process?
Who is accepting donated items?
What items can be donated?
How can you donate?
In Chicagoland, as in many areas of the nation, charities and organizations that typically accept much-needed items are now closed as a result of COVID-19 worries. Drop-offs and donations are not currently being accepted.
As a result, I performed some research and found that there are a few solutions available currently, but admittedly they are somewhat limited.
Below you will find an infographic that provides some helpful information as to WHO, WHAT, and WHERE you can donate some of the items you have gathered together.
This infographic also containsinformation and website info/links to websites for charities and organizations that are in need of supplies, equipment, foods, and monetary donations, as well.
Chicagoland Options for Donation of Household Items,
Supplies, Foods, and Monetary Assistance
If you wish to make a donation of items or money, please visit the websites of the charities/organizations themselves for further, more detailed information so you can give in the appropriate and proper manner.
Should some of your items not be needed or "donatable" at this time, please store them until a later date. Bins or plastic bags that will keep the items safe and moisture-free are best suited for this type of storage.
We're all in this together ... whether in Chicagoland or elsewhere across the country or world. Your efforts and donations are appreciated, both now and in the future.
Until this passes, please stay safe ... stay healthy ...

Good information to share. I always think it is good to declutter, however procrastination still has me with drawerfuls of files that I have not looked at for a very long time, but just in case I am holding on to them. Maybe tomorrow, I'll get around to taking them to the recycling bin.

What a F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S post, Gene. I've long been a believer in the benefits of organizing and decluttering... and that's why I do it regularly; which also means that I don't have much of it to do right now!
Good morning Gene. While decluttering is not an issue for us because it was doer before downsizing, many of my shelter in place friends are in the process. Thanks for the tips! Enjoy your day and the Chicago snow!

Gene you are right this is a great time to get rid of some unused treasures. For me the weekend project will be the garage, but I have to admit I am not looking forward to it!!!

We tend to do it every Fall and Spring for our community yard sale which was put off this year. But we will have Waterfront Mission pick it us as soon as possible. Good organized post by the way.
