Puzzles of the Jig Saw variety and the art of real estate

By
Real Estate Agent with Jameson Sotheby's International Realty

I was going to start this post with "I just realized"... but that's not true... I've known it for a long time, I've only just been able to put it in words, or had the desire to do so.

JIG SAW PUZZLES

That's right, I said Jig Saw Puzzles.  Putting our deals together... buyers with sellers, sellers with buyers, buyers with attorneys, and inspectors, and lenders... it's all finding the right jig saw pieces and putting them together.

There's a skill to knowing which piece goes with which other.  Some are "innies"....some are "outies".  Some are edges and the ever important "corners".

JIG SAW PUZZLES

Those of us who've been in the biz a long time... or perhaps are just remarkably skilled (having a Doctorate in psychology helps)... can manage to put those pieces together remarkably quickly... and adeptly.

Some of us take our time.  Using a magnifying glass, checking tabs against slots, measuring and assessing way before ever attempting an alignment.  Others of us press each available part up against the other part right away... keeping a rubber mallet handy, if needed.

The really creative keep a secret scissors in their back pocket, and a small scotch tape dispenser.

JIG SAW PUZZLES

In the end, some of them are lovely, some of them are coarse, but mostly finished, but missing pieces, and others had to returned to the safety of the box (I hope I got all the pieces).

Good morning Alan. Interesting take on the real este business. Sometimes, we just can't put the pieces together and sometimes they fall in place. Most of the time we deal with puzzles that fall in the middle!

This is one for you to consider Carol Williams

Alan this is exactly what the RE biz is like!  More agents would be wise to start thinking of real estate as just a big puzzle to be solved!  Having the ablility to see and know in advance how to manage any puzzle (real estate deal) AND have the right pieces to the puzzle ( service providers) to help with the puzzle is critical. For instance when I walk into a home I know exactly what needs to be done to prepare it properly for our market and have the team in place to accomplish the goal - SOLD for top dollar.

That is a great analogy Alan May. This week i feel i am trying to complete my puzzle with a missing piece. That would be a MIA loan officer

I had to come back to this one for a little bit of inspiration to put some of the pieces of what I’ve been working on back together in a sensible way.
