It's day 843 of Covid-19 restrictions, and with each day my house seems to be getting smaller. Okay, it's really *only* been 3 weeks since the stay-at-home order was issued in Maryland, but it feels like day 843.
Although I get out each day, walk or run, or hike whilst maintaining the proper distance of course and following trail etiquette, I spend A LOT more time at home. My house is definitely shrinking. Yours, too?
All the shortcomings, the details that bothered me a little bit but not enough to move up on my to-do list in years past, are now magnified, by a hundred. Suddenly that chipped tile is staring at me, my dryer is yelling for attention (or retirement?), and when did my fence got so warped that the gate refuses to properly close and latch?
Spending hours each day at my kitchen table has also driven home the point that my home office is in need of a major reno. I've realized that I am not very comfortable there - in the basement dungeon. I spend just enough time there to get the job done. It's impeding my creativity, and I am not at my most productive. Sitting at my kitchen table, however, gets my creative juices flowing, and I am knocking out my daily to-do list.
It has most definitely shown me what does work for me, what inspires me, and motivates me. I need daylight, and lots of it. I need room to spread out. I need functional but stylish accessories. I need a pretty view. And I most definitely do not need a fridge, and pantry, and lots of snacks just a few steps from me!
Spending that much more time at home has been insightful. I can clearly envision my ideal WFO environment, a space that will inspire, and make me glad to be there, each and every moment, doing what I love.
After a few weeks of stay-at-home restrictions, I have a very clear idea what I want, and which changes I need to make to get there.
My house appears to be shrinking, yours, too?
