500 Days Of Summer. . .

It's been some time since my last visit to a movie theater and although I enjoy films, I am not a big fan of at-home viewing.  I was thinking of movies as my mind wandered the other day.  Of course, Los Angeles has so much history where movies and movie-making have a co-starring role.  A favorite?  I can't think of one.  There are many.  Why choose?

One that immediately came to mind was 500 Days of Summer.  This movie was released in 2009 and stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zoey Deschanel in a fast-paced and decidedly offbeat comedy.  With familiar scenes in abundance and a catchy upbeat score there was plenty for me to like.

When I think of that movie, I think of another movie which is more recent(2016) which you may know: LaLa Land.  Not as well done in my opinion as 500 Days of Summer, it has a nice enough feel to it.  It stars Emma Stone along with Ryan Gosling

Going back a few years was L. A. Confidential, a 1997 classic with a somewhat gritty appearance of life in 1940s Los Angeles.  It stars Russell Crowe.   It is an enjoyable movie.  Both as a snapshot of the city in a different time and because of the terrific period details.

Another favorite from decades ago:  L.A. Story - from 1981, it stars Steve Martin as a wacky television weatherman.  I remember seeing it when it originally premiered and have caught scenes over the years.  I wonder if it will be fondly remembered?  Maybe I need to give this an at-home experience.  I'll let you know where this leads.  Of course, there are more choices to come. . .

Hi Michael- I remember 500 Days of Summer and thoroughly enjoyed it. And since I love Steve Martin, I would watch anything he's in. Do you remember the Spanish Prisoner???

Kathy Streib - I vaguely remembered the title and your comment prompted an online search which brought additional memories.  Yes, Steve Martin, David Mamet and the noir-esque feel of the movie became more apparent as I watched the movie trailer.  Good memories.  Thanks for sending me down that rabbit hole once again.

Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 - I have been hearing some positive things about Bosch(there goes my theory that it was simply an appliance infomercial).

I enjoyed "LaLa Land" but am not familiar with "500 Days of Summer." Perhaps my husband and I should download that one. Thanks for the tip, Michael.

Michael, I have not been to a "movie" in a very long time as in years love your walk back on movie history lane... on a side note when Russel Crowe was here to make one of his movies I leased him a place in Santa Monica:)Endre

Roy Kelley - you could be right.

Lottie Kendall - if you do, I hope you enjoy it.  I suggeest you look at the trailer to see if the preview prompts curiosity for more...

Endre Barath, Jr. - as for additional roles with Los Angeles as a supporting cast member, there are many.  Six degrees of seperation strikes again.  It happens often, doesn't it.

Michael- I am just the opposite. I like watching movies in the comfort of my own home. I used to years ago. Just more comfortable at home plus it would be challenging doing so on the road.

Hi Michael,  I guess I haven't been watching many movies lately.  Looks like I will be searching some of these out to watch - at home.

Morning Michael.

I usually go to the movies about once every 5-6 years.  However, last year I went twice.  So, I'm good for a few years

HI Michael Jacobs - Funny you bring this up. I was thinking about movies and TV series right before reading this.  I was wondering what this industry will look like moving forward? Will we see hugging or shaking hands? Will we see disclaimers at the onset of the movie or show?  Will we see more period pieces so that this current issue does not need to be addressed?  Lots of pondering ahead!

I've seen all the movies you mentioned except 500 Days of Summer. The trailer is not very exciting but I've not been disappointed in your movie (sort of) recommendations, so I will check it out.

Sharon Tara - well, rather than a recommendation or a review, I prefer to think of any post I share which is movie-related as something like a cinema cogitation.  Something to chew on.   Sort of.

That's definitely true for 500 Days of Summer which has a lot of Los Angeles-centric sights to see(and for me to enjoy...after all it is about "me"
