Thought for the Day - Emerson via my friend, Wilma

By

"Finish each day and be done
with it. You have done what
you could. Some blunders and
absurdities have crept in;
forget them as soon as you
can. Tomorrow is a new day.
You shall begin it serenely and
with too high a spirit to be
encumbered with your old
nonsense." ~Emerson

I loved this quote when I read it and I thank my friend, Wilma, for sharing it in the class newsletter.

When I lived in San Carlos, before moving to San Francisco, I used to attend a 5:40AM class in Redwood City. While that isn't feasible for me now, the friendships remain solid.

Classes have been stopped for the last 6 weeks, but we all stay in touch via newsletters with contributions from many participants. While I can't get out for hikes with some as I like to do, and can't invite them to join me in San Francisco for walks and lunch, and pot luck dinners and parties are on hold, we can talk on the phone, send emails back and forth, and enjoy the newsletters, keeping up with each other's activities.

"Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could..."

Good morning Michael Jacobs - that quote seems to fit the times we're in very well.

Hi Thomas J. Nelson, Realtor e-Pro, CRS, RCS-D, Vets - I used to visit San Diego a fair amount when my daughter went to college there; haven't been back for a while. Do you return to SF and San Mateo County from time to time? We live in two nice areas.

Good morning, Sharon Lee - I hope you and your kitty are finding a lot of shade and are staying cool! The building pictured is the Palace of Fine Arts, built for the 1915 PanAmerican fair celebrating the completion of the Panama Canal. It is the only remaining building, and truly has a gorgeous setting.

Hi Brian England - we're fortunate to have so many different ways to stay in touch. I really appreciate my friends from this early morning exercise class; they are a committed bunch!

Hello Endre Barath, Jr. - glad you appreciated that quote; I did, too.

Hi Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS and Wayne Martin - after reading this quote and thinking about it (a lot) I realize that I haven't picked up a book of poetry for a long time. I think I'll change that!

Lottie I had not seen that quote before, but it is a keeper.  We spend way to much time on yesterday, instead of focusing on today.

I love Emerson's words, Lottie.  So timely.  That's also a gorgeous scene of the Palace of Fine Arts.  I've never seen it at night time.

Myrl Jeffcoat - thanks for the Feature in the Old Farts Club - I'm honored. I hadn't come across that Emerson quote, but it's a keeper for me. The photo of the Palace I took on one of our evening walks several years ago (captured by my cell phone.)

Hi Kathy Streib - I'll print those words out, at least the first two sentences, and tape them to my bulletin board at my desk where I'll see them throughout the day. I'm glad that quote is meaningful to you.
