Helping Each Other in the ActiveRain Community

"Write a post sharing how we are showing the positives of real estate right now, how professionals can help each other, their community, and of course, clients, including buyers and sellers." This is the April contest challenge from ActiveRain Ambassador Margaret Rome

If you follow my blog posts on a regular basis, you know that I have written hundreds of posts about many aspects of our home community, our county and our home state of Maryland.

For this post, I have decided on how to focus on helping and supporting our fellow members of ActiveRain. Many of our members are doing their best during this stressful time and some extra kindness and positive support is definitely in order. I do not know how much longer I will be an active member but will recommend some of the things that I have been doing for a number of years.

When you receive a comment on one of your posts, try to reciprocate by leaving a comment on one of the other member's posts. Set a goal of leaving 20 comments each day. When you follow this practice for a period of time, you will develop closer relationships with members with common interests. 'Like' the blog posts as you leave comments to allow those members to earn a few more points.

Make it a habit to post a daily reblog. The reblogs allow us to share the experience and advice provided by other real estate professionals. My practice is to schedule reblogs in advance as I identify interesting posts.

Follow some additional members every day. I have made it a habit to follow a minimum of five of the new members each day. I also follow those who have made comments on my posts and the posts of others that I read. When you read a first time blog post, leave a positive comment of support and offer suggestions when appropriate.

If you have time, answer some of the questions posed in the Q&A section. And, try to resist making negative comments when you are in this section.

Set a good example by providing positive and helpful information about your home community and the activities in your home area. I have written about many local events and about programs available in our city and county.

Take good care of yourself and your family during this pandemic. Dolores and I have been following the Stay at Home mandate and the social distancing advice that has been provided.

Roy, These are all very good suggestions for those who are new and for those of us who have been on AR for many years. You walk the walk and demonstrate the best way to connect with others for the benefit of all.

Hello Roy - the comment by Barbara Michaluk sent me down a rabbit hole or sorts as I pondered about walking the walk and walking the talk.  The rabbit hole is a familiar place for me to visit.

That said(and temporarily out of the way) - you certainly have demonstrated a commitment to the power of community which enhances  the ActiveRain experience.

Within your suggestions above were the words, "I do not know how much longer I will be an active member" - are you tired of posting on AR? I've noticed a lot of people who were posting here are no longer currently active. Everything changes, doesn't it?

Hi Roy Kelley,

These are great points to share with the community.  I think I have learned these things through osmosis over the years.  (Probably from you!)

I normally do not reblog much and your blog reminded me of the April Challenge.  Thank you!

Great advice, Roy, on Active Rain "etiquette."  I'll be the first to admit that at some point if I've been regularly commenting on someone's posts and they never reciprocate, I stop commenting. I don't consider it a one for one exercise, but there still have to be some acknowledgment in the form of reciprocation. Meantime, hopefully you'll still be around in the Rain for some time to come... it wouldn't be the same place without you!

Good suggestion, Roy.  ActiveRain is indeed a community.  And, in times like these, where social distancing is mandated, ActiveRain continues on, just as it always has!
