Urban and Suburban Egg Growers

Spring is chicken season. A season that we are quite familiar with. It's that moment in time that we replenish our hen house and take inventory of what we need for the next year. After our unfortunate fox visit last fall we were gonna pass this season by without, but things kinda changed when we found out that we were gonna be home all spring and early summer anyways.

So. We have chickens. And we are not alone. Reports are coming in of families everywhere taking growing of food into their own hands. Depending on the rules or your city, township and county will greatly depend on whether you are allowed to have animals (like poutry) running around or even cooped in your yard.

But - if you are are - it's more power to you. Those cute fluffy chicks have such personality that they are fun to watch grow into hens. We tend to keep ours closely tethered to avoid attack (because there is nothing worse than fox or coyotes sneaking off with our animals), but they are fun. From their chirps to pecking. From there fluffing to scratching. They are certainly full of energy.

Have you taken steps to grow your own food? Have you thought about moving to a hobby farm to do so? There is ample opportunity in our area for some acreage to do just that. Whether you want land for animals or plants - there is something out there for everyone. If this is important to you let's chat!

Good morning Lindsey. No growing of food in my apartment in the sky, but have experienced farm fresh eggs in the past. Enjoy your day!

I can only imagine what it would like growing baby chicks on your balcony overlooking the city. :) Probably a good thing you aren't growing chickies in the sky.

Hi Lindsey- I can see why people might be raising their own chickens but not going to happen in my back yard.
