Good Routines Often Become Permanent Customs

The Governor of Massachusetts has extended our “shelter in place” order to May 18th.  Since our daily chart shows a graph line that has not leveled off but continues to soar, I fully expect the 18th to be extended to June 1st. We need 14 consecutive days of declining numbers to begin the process of returning to something resembling a real life.

“Sheltering in Place” has truly become a new way of life. Routines are important to me. I live, and work best with many habits and practices in place.

Isn’t it sinful to admit, my excitement for 4 days of the week is a visit to the grocery store. I replenish my fresh veggies and fruit with each “shopping fling.”

My workouts for the past six weeks have been 50 squats and now I’ve added 50 shoulder shrugs with the same weight on the hex bar. Squats create a whole new definition for “pain in the ass.”  If you do squats, you’ll understand!!!

Of course, the highlight of every day is lunch with my son, Michael, and on occasion, Tammy joins us.  I make healthy lunches and each day is a different menu.

“Sheltering in Place” does not mean hosting lunch, but this is the only rule I break. We stay 6’ apart…..no masks and no gloves in my house.  Shoes come off at the door.  Hands are sanitized.

It’s family!!  My family breaks rules for family!!!  I consider that a good routine.

Just sayin’…..

Barbara my youngest son and his wife came to our house on Sunday for about an hour.  We sat more than six feet apart and had a great conversation.  I think we will see more rule breaking as we go forward.  People are ready to start getting back to more of a routine of being with others.  I know what the so called experts say, but we are at a stage right now that the shelter in place is beginning to create other issues financially, mentally, and even physical health wise.  If the shelter in place goes on much longer we will begin to hear of more deaths and it will not be because of the COVID-19 virus.

George Souto I think if it's family and you stay 6' away and disinfect after they leave, you'll be fine..... it's difficult to not give hugs, but we don't.....

Barbara, glad to hear you are able to spend time with family.   It is tough when you live by yourself, and to hear you have an extended time at home!

Hi Barbara,

We heard on last nights news that our province is going to be slowly opening back up starting May 4th. Hopefully everyone won't push the limits. It is nice you are still able to have lunch with your son.

Hi BarbaraT- Our "Stay at home" order ends tonight.  We've been able to see family when we drop off baked goods or toys to the children. What's been hard was when my mini-me wanted to rush up and give me a big hug and we had to have her stop. Broke my heart. That said, I consider myself lucky to be able to do this much.

We still walk every morning, even if there is a light rain. And I finally went into the grocery store this week after using curbside service for 3 weeks. It was so much fun picking out my own produce!

Morning Barbara.

We were never in a shelter and place situation in my state.  Restaurants are opening up May 11, with new rules.

After the fall from my bike on Monday, that has left me with an ugly blackeye, I'm taking a couple days off from fitness! At least until the facial pain subsides.  Next week, I think I'll go back to dancing to music out in my garage!

Hello Barbara,  We are opening up on May 8 to show homes but still wondering about that.  Staying in seems to be the way to go a little longer.

We are still allowed to show houses to no more than 2 people at a time - no open houses - I wish someone realized I have no desire to die and as a result will practice sensible behavior so that we could do open houses again - I have no idea when our numbers will start to go down and we will open up - our numbers are still high

Hi Barbara,

I agree with you, I am in no rush to reopen everything until we are sure it is safe to do so. Unfortunately there are many others that don't care and want it opened up.

Sounds like you have a pretty good plan for sheltering in place, and a healthy one!
