Change is in the air in the San Francisco Bay Area

Real Estate Agent with Compass CA DRE# 01215160

Today is May 1. Perhaps it is appropriate that the new month brings with it a sense of imminent change.

Beginning May 4 a cautious loosening in the Shelter-in-Place we've been living with since the middle of March will take place. A few more businesses will be allowed to open--construction, landscaping & gardening services, some dry goods stores. In the real estate world, we'll be able to show occupied residences under very specific requirements. Social distancing at least 6' will be required; face masks required;. San Mateo County will reopen their wild land parks and beaches.

Golf courses will re-open, with safety protocols in place, which I'm sure will please golfers among us (I'm thinking of Carol Williams among others.) Tennis courts in San Francisco will open for single play at least (how about that, Brian England .) No word yet on swimming pools, but I'm sure our YMCA is keeping close tabs on that.

During these months of SIP I've gotten out daily for good walks, short hikes and plenty of fresh air. We took advantage of the closed golf courses to walk several of the finest public courses in San Francisco, the Presidio Golf Course and Lincoln Park, two beautiful courses in exceptional settings. (The view from the 17th hole of the Lincoln Park Golf Course is world class!)

Starting at the first hole, up and down we went, back and forth, in order of play 1...2...3......18. The 19th hole was back at our condo for chips and a beer!

I'm so glad we took advantage of this unique time to experience something we normally can't do, and see the courses with new eyes.

Now it's time to relinquish the courses back to the golfers, and listen for the cries of "fore" while we stay safely on the nearby hiking/running trails.

Hi Lottie:

We are seeing some changes here as well. Earlier this week some beaches were opened (but not yet in Carlsbad) and today we will start seeing some parks and gof courses open.

At the same time our county has begun requiring face masks as of today when you are out in public and within 6 feet of non-household members...so alot of the time. In the past this was just a strong recommendation other than for essential employees.

I'm really proud of our governor for leading the open back up movement.  Now if he'll chill and let people makes their own decisions instead of staying if you are 65 or older stay home.  Pffft.

Good morning Lottie Kendall - yes, there have been some blessing to these shutdowns and walking those beautiful courses is one of them.  Nothing is happening yet here in the NY metropolitan area but may happen in other parts of the state.

Good morning, Lottie... it's time to start getting back to leading our lives and to stop sheltering. Nonetheless, it sounds that you made the best of a difficult situation and "grew" in the process.

Our governor just announced yesterday that he is extending our shelter in place mandate until May 31st. He may loosen some of the restrictions but he's going to wait and see how we handle these freedoms. I'm glad it's an election year...

Happy Saturday Lottie Kendall

Hi Lottie, sounds like a good solid plan to get things back on track. How wonderful to have an opportunity to walk the golf courses. I'll bet that was a treat.

Hearing about tennis courts opening up definitely catches my ear Lottie Kendall but I am more anxious for the gyms to open back up so I can get back to swimming laps!

Hi Brian England - I hope I didn't speak too soon about tennis courts re-opening. Perhaps they are allowed city-by-city, not statewide. Directives change so quickly it's hard to keep up. Same with real estate.

Hi Sharon Lee - I learned this morning that people in Spain have not been able to get outdoors for exercise for 7 weeks--that was lifted today. I would find that exceedingly difficult!

Hello Joseph Doohan - we're fine here; hope the same for you. Is Las Vegas still pretty much shut down?

Good morning Tammy Lankford, - I hope your state's re-emergence goes smoothly and safely. I was reading this morning that a number of Atlanta's restaurants have said they are choosing to wait longer before getting back to business. Hard choices.

Good morning, Nina Hollander - how are things in North Carolina? Has the virus spread slowed to acceptable levels for re-opening?

Hi Grant Schneider - are you a golfer? I've often thought if I ever took up the sport it would be to play at Lincoln Park Golf Course - that view from the 17th hole is drop-dead gorgeous.

Lottie Kendall hi Lottie... we were very stymied by being categorized as non-essential in Charlotte and our county, unlike the rest of the state. Restrictions were just lifted yesterday. State restrictions on till May 8th with gradual openings from there on in. Lots of demonstrations in Raleigh these days by people saying enough is enough.

Hello Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS and Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD - it seems that our governor and yours think along the same lines. Prudence is called for as the SIP is loosening. Ours continues through 5/31 also, with a few, specific exceptions.

Looks like you are ahead of us, and maybe I will check to see what changes we have here.  We still have to wear face masks, but the final end is supposed to be May 15th...I am so used to having things as they were when it comes to work and recreation for the most part...A

Hi George Souto and Ron and Alexandra Seigel - SIP remains in place for most of us through 5/31. The easing we're seeing now pertains primarily to construction and landscaping work, and some outdoor recreational activities where it is possible to stay 6' apart. A few minor changes relating to real estate activity. I expect more revisions next week!
