Today is May 1. Perhaps it is appropriate that the new month brings with it a sense of imminent change.
Beginning May 4 a cautious loosening in the Shelter-in-Place we've been living with since the middle of March will take place. A few more businesses will be allowed to open--construction, landscaping & gardening services, some dry goods stores. In the real estate world, we'll be able to show occupied residences under very specific requirements. Social distancing at least 6' will be required; face masks required;. San Mateo County will reopen their wild land parks and beaches.
Golf courses will re-open, with safety protocols in place, which I'm sure will please golfers among us (I'm thinking of Carol Williams among others.) Tennis courts in San Francisco will open for single play at least (how about that, Brian England .) No word yet on swimming pools, but I'm sure our YMCA is keeping close tabs on that.
During these months of SIP I've gotten out daily for good walks, short hikes and plenty of fresh air. We took advantage of the closed golf courses to walk several of the finest public courses in San Francisco, the Presidio Golf Course and Lincoln Park, two beautiful courses in exceptional settings. (The view from the 17th hole of the Lincoln Park Golf Course is world class!)
Starting at the first hole, up and down we went, back and forth, in order of play 1...2...3......18. The 19th hole was back at our condo for chips and a beer!
I'm so glad we took advantage of this unique time to experience something we normally can't do, and see the courses with new eyes.
Now it's time to relinquish the courses back to the golfers, and listen for the cries of "fore" while we stay safely on the nearby hiking/running trails.
